A Beautiful Prayer by Thomas Merton

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following Your Will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please You. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. ~ Thomas Merton

Today’s Quote: The Feeling of Awe & Gratitude

“To look out at this kind of creation out here and not believe in God is to me impossible.” ― John Glenn, astronaut

Our Journey Has Advanced ~ A Poem by Emily Dickinson

Our Journey Has Advanced

Emily Dickinson

Our journey had advanced—
Our feet were almost come
To that odd Fork in Being’s Road—
Eternity—by Term—

Our pace took sudden awe—
Our feet—reluctant—led—
Before—were Cities—but Between—
The Forest of the Dead—

Retreat—was out of Hope—
Behind—a Sealed Route—
Eternity’s White Flag—Before—
And God—at every Gate—

God’s Wheel ~ A Poem by Shel Silverstein

God’s Wheel

Shel Silverstein

GOD says to me with a kind
of smile, “Hey how would you like
to be God awhile And steer the world?”
“Okay,” says I, “I’ll give it a try.

Where do I set?
How much do I get?
What time is lunch?
When can I quit?”

“Gimme back that wheel,” says GOD.
“I don’t think you’re quite ready YET.”

Renewal of Strength ~ A Poem by Frances Ellen Watkins

Renewal of Strength

Frances Ellen Watkins

The prison-house in which I live
Is falling to decay,
But God renews my spirit’s strength,
Within these walls of clay.

For me a dimness slowly creeps
Around earth’s fairest light,
But heaven grows clearer to my view,
And fairer to my sight.

It may be earth’s sweet harmonies
Are duller to my ear,
But music from my Father’s house
Begins to float more near.

Then let the pillars of my home
Crumble and fall away;
Lo, God’s dear love within my soul
Renews it day by day.

A Way of Being

“When the presence of God emerges from our inmost being into our faculties, whether we walk down the street or drink a cup of soup, divine life is pouring into the world.” ~ Thomas Keating

Lie-Awake Song ~ A Poem by Amelia Josephine Burr

Lie-Awake Song

Amelia Josephine Burr

God has a house three streets away,
And every Sunday, rain or shine,
My nurse goes there her prayers to say.
She’s told me of the candles fine
That, burning all night long, they keep
Because God never goes to sleep.
Then there’s a steeple full of bells,
All through the dark the time it tells.
I like to hear it in the night
And think about those candles bright.
I wonder if God stays awake
For kindness, like the Furnace-man
Who comes before it’s day, to make
Our house as pleasant as he can…
I like to watch the sky grow blue,
And think perhaps, the whole world through,
No one’s awake but just us three—
God, and the Furnace-man, and me.

An Adventure of a Lifetime

“To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek him the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement.” ― St. Augustine of Hippo

Find Great Joy in Loving Life

“Life is everything. Life is God. Everything changes and moves and that movement is God. And while there is life there is joy in consciousness of the divine. To love life is to love God.” ~ Tolstoy

Today’s Poem: God is Always Ready by Meister Eckhart

God is Always Ready

Meister Eckhart

God is always ready,
but we are very unready;
God is near to us,
but we are far from Him;
God is within, but we are without;
God is at home, but we are strangers.
