Light for the Journey: Be Your Own Salvador Dalí (Minus the Melting Clocks, Unless That’s Your Thing)

What if you woke up each morning in awe of being you? Salvador Dalí did—and he didn’t exactly play small. Maybe it’s time we all brought a little more rapture to our reflection.

Every morning when I wake up, I experience an exquisite joy – the joy of being Salvador Dalí – and I ask myself in rapture: What wonderful things this Salvador Dalí is going to accomplish today? ~ Salvador Dali

Reflection:

Dalí didn’t just create surreal art—he lived with surreal confidence. His morning joy wasn’t ego; it was deep appreciation for his own creative power. What if we all started our days that way—believing that being ourselves was reason enough to expect something wonderful?

Light for the Journey: Love as Light, Joy as Armor: Wordsworth’s Guide to a Radiant Life

Serene will be our days, and bright and happy will our nature be, when love is an unerring light, and joy its own security. William Wordsworth

Reflection:

Wordsworth paints a vision of life not weighed down by fear or doubt, but lifted by love that never falters and joy that guards itself. This isn’t just poetic dreaming—it’s an invitation to live from the soul’s truest compass. When we let love lead and joy rise from within, serenity isn’t far behind—it’s already here.

Today’s Quote: Hold On – It Will Get Better

Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. Psalm 30:5

Healthy Tips: Joy Is Not a Mood—It’s a Message

Healthy Tip: Joy isn’t the loud cousin of happiness, throwing confetti around at every party. Joy is subtle, sacred, and often surprisingly quiet. It doesn’t require ideal conditions; it can show up in the middle of chaos.

Practical example: A friend told me once that after her father’s funeral, the family gathered in the kitchen. Someone cracked a joke. Everyone burst out laughing through tears. That, she said, was joy. It didn’t erase the grief. It accompanied it.

Joy isn’t a detour from reality — it’s a deep acknowledgment of it. When you sense joy, pay attention. Your emotional senses are telling you, “This moment matters.”

Teaser for Post 3: Why sorrow deserves a seat at the table—and how it makes us more human, not more broken.

Hidden Sorrows ~ A Poem by Alfred Castner King

Hidden Sorrows

Alfred Castner Kind

For some the river of life would seem
  Free from the shallow, the reef, or bar,
As they gently glide down the silvery stream
  With scarcely a ripple, a lurch, or jar;
But under the surface, calm and fair,
  Lurk the hidden snags, and the secret care;
The waters are deepest where still, and clear,
And the sternest anguish forbids a tear.

For others, the pathway of life is strewn
  With many a thorn, for each rose or bud;
And their journey o’er mountain, o’er moor, and dune,
  Can be plainly tracked by footprints of blood;
But deeper still lies the hidden smart
  Of some secret sorrow, which gnaws the heart,
And rankles under a surface clear;
For the sternest anguish forbids a tear.

But, when the journey’s end we see,
  At the bar of the Judge of quick and dead,
The cross, which the one bore silently
May outweigh his of the bloodstained tread.
The cross unseen, and the cross of light,
  May balance in that Judge’s sight;
O’er the heart that is breaking a smile may appear,
For the sternest anguish forbids a tear.

Joy ~ A Poem by Carl Sandburg

Joy

Carl Sandburg

Let a joy keep you.
Reach out your hands
And take it when it runs by,
As the Apache dancer
Clutches his woman.
I have seen them
Live long and laugh loud,
Sent on singing, singing,
Smashed to the heart
Under the ribs
With a terrible love.
Joy always,
Joy everywhere—
Let joy kill you!
Keep away from the little deaths.

Inspiring Quote: We Need Joy as We Need Air

We need Joy as we need air. We need Love as we need water. We need each other as we need the earth we share. ~ Maya Angelou
