Recognize Signs of Stress ~Physical symptoms like headaches, tight muscles, or digestive issues can indicate stress overload. Prioritize relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or walks in nature.

No one has a pressure free life. Stressors come at us from every possible angle. They come from relationships in and outside of immediate family. The come from work. There are financial stressors. Do you feel your jaw tightening simply by reading these words? It’s a good idea to do a body scan several times a day. It can be done quickly. All you’re doing is looking for signs that your stressed. As the health tip suggests, find time where you can chill, not talking hitting the bar for a few drinks, do something physical, e.g., run, walk, swim, lift weights. Do yoga or meditation. Make a visit to your house of worship and sit quietly. They’re lots of things you can do to lower the speed on the stress meter.

    What Is Your Stress Meter Reading?

    Did you check your stress meter? On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being exceptionally cool and 10 being totally stressed out, where are you? When our stress levels are continuously high, we may feel like that’s normal and we’re not stressed. Try really chilling out; no electronic media, only soft mellow music and sitting quietly, perhaps sipping coffee or tea. No conversations. If it feels stressful and unnatural to you, you probably forgot how to relax. Stress has become your normal. You can lower your stress levels, but it will take time. It’s a lot like going on a diet after the holidays. One can’t lose ten pounds in two days. Start by claiming as little as a minute of total relaxation time each day. If you stay with it, you can build it up to perhaps 5 or 10 minutes at a time. Once you’re there you can take chill time multiple times during the day. Chill times are brief intermissions from the stress associated with your life. You’ll find, over time, you’re becoming less stressed and anxious and more calm and relaxed.

    Today’s Thought: A Dog’s Lessons

    My friend has a wonderful dog. He got it at the dog rescue agency. The dog is playful and a delight to watch. My friend stopped by a garage sale and picked up a squeeze ball. The squeeze ball is now his dog’s favorite toy. I envy his dog. It amuses itself with simple things. It lets the tension of a passing garbage truck roll off his back and he’s back at play. I’d like to let tension roll off me as easily or let go of some of the many electronic gadgets I have. If there’s a new one, I need it. When is the new iPhone coming out? LOL Our dogs are good reminders to lighten up, let go, and relax.

    There are times when we have to grit our teeth and push on without an end in sight. That happens to everyone. There are other times when it’s all good and we wish it would never end. Enjoy these moments. Let them rush in and surround you and carry you away for the brief time they’re here. I know a guy who only thinks about work. Even during these good times he’ll only talk about work, check his phone for emails or texts. He can’t enjoy the good times. Want to feel good? Enjoy the good times, set everything else aside, and relish the company of family and friends.
