Between us Now ~ A Poem by Thomas Hardy

Between Us Now

Thomas Hardy

Between us now and here—
Two thrown together
Who are not wont to wear
Life’s flushest feather—

Who see the scenes slide past,
The daytimes dimming fast,
Let there be truth at last,
Even if despair.

So thoroughly and long
Have you now known me,
So real in faith and strong
Have I now shown me,
That nothing needs disguise
Further in any wise,
Or asks or justifies
A guarded tongue.

Face unto face, then, say,
Eyes my own meeting,
Is your heart far away,
Or with mine beating?
When false things are brought low,
And swift things have grown slow,
Feigning like froth shall go,
Faith be for aye.

What If . . .

What if we dared to work together for the common good? We do it when tragedy strikes; we don’t have to wait until we are pushed against the wall to act A former doctoral student gave me a small sculpture of five human figures standing in a circle holding hands. The circle is unbroken. One hand clasps the hand next to it until the circle is completed. The sculpture is a daily reminder to me that together we do much more, much sooner than we do alone.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Unleashing the Power of Dreams

“When we are dreaming alone it is only a dream. When we are dreaming with others, it is the beginning of reality.”

~ Hélder Câmara

Something to Think About

Our world, the world that swirls around us, is not the whole world. There are billions of worlds swirling across the globe every moment. When we think our world is representative of the whole world we greatly exaggerate our importance. Our world is a microcosm of what exists. When we look beyond our world to glimpse a view of the other worlds, we begin to see a larger picture. It is a picture filled with pain and simultaneously filled with hope. When we connect our world with other worlds, we connect with the pain and the hopes. We bring our world closer together.
