Today’s Good Word ~ Mental Attitude

The reality of our world filters itself through our mental attitude of what is real or not real. People will fight until they no longer have strength for a world view that is wrong by every standard but the one created by their mental attitude. What kind of world do you want to see? Create the world with your mental attitude and soon evidence will accumulate faster than snowflakes during a winter blizzard. The kind of world we create with our mental attitude affects our health, emotions, and relationships. Before you create the world you desire with your mental attitude think of your health, emotions and relationships. In what kind of world view will your health, emotions and relationships flourish.

Today’s Good Word ~ Step

I can recall the first steps of my children. They took their first steps with courage, staggered a bit, wobbled and dropped to the floor. They crawled to the coffee table, pulled themselves up and started again. Babies have a wonderful lesson for adults. When life knocks us down, get up, take the first step, even if it is a bit wobbly, and set out again. When we choose to stay on the floor, it’s all over. Life asks us to get up and take the first step in faith knowing that a second and third step will follow.

Today’s Good Word ~ Responsibility

Responsibility challenges us to step up and take ownership. When my children were young, I had a responsibility to protect, love, and provide for them. When my wife was alive, I had a responsibility to love her and no other. I also had a responsibility to my employer to provide an honest day’s work for an honest for an honest day’s wage. I live in a democracy and I have a responsibility to my fellow citizens to vote and work with them to create a better society. There are many other areas of responsibility that touch our lives. They may arise on a moment’s notice. For example, if we see someone injured in an accident we have a responsibility to bring aid and call for help. The more we embrace our responsibilities the more we contribute to a kinder and compassionate society.

Today’s Good Word ~ Light & Dark

All of us have a light and dark side. We enjoy seeing only our light side. The light side displays our compassion, kindness, honesty, and love. We shy away from acknowledging our dark side. It’s difficult to admit to the self that we are capable of being selfish, mean, angry, and greedy. When we view our dark side we realize how much we are like everyone we’ve criticized. It is both humbling and liberating. It makes me more accepting of others with the hope they will be more accepting of me. In many ways, once we acknowledge and accept our dark side, our light side becomes brighter.

Today’s Good Word ~ Follow

There are times in our lives when we follow. Our big decision is to decide who we want to follow. Does the person we are following lift us up and inspire us to be better. Or, is the person we are following self-centered and only seeking our adulation. When we choose wisely, the person we follow will show us new pathways, encourage us to move out on our own, and cheer us from the sidelines.

Today’s Good Word ~ Desire

When we desire something we place great emphasis in attaining it. The stronger our desire the greater our effort to acquire what we desire. People with addictions of any sort will resort to any any means to satisfy their desire. Desire lights the fire of passion to chase desirable ends. Here’s hoping your desire lights your passion to make a difference for yourself, those close to you, and those in your community. The world will be better for it.

Today’s Good Word ~ Grounded

I love my 200 year old live oak. It’s branches extend twenty feet. It’s roots are grounded in soil that is no deeper than 5 inches. Storms and winds cannot shake this tree, it is grounded and gains it strength from roots that stretch far before the shade cast by the tree. When we are grounded, we’re not easily swayed by emotions or spur of the moment impulses. We take time to think, reflect, and weigh our actions. When we are grounded we anchor our roots in a set of values tested by time. We cannot be shaken by the storms that buffet us or the gail winds that try to knock us off balance.

Today’s Good Word ~ Great Thoughts

The thoughts we allow to dance in our mind determine the direction of our day, the quality of our relationships, and our destiny. Why not fill your mind with great thoughts, great ideas, great ways to contribute to society? All it takes to make a great difference is one person who takes his/her great thought and puts it into action.

Today’s Good Word ~ Chill

Chill has several meanings. I’m using it in its informal sense meaning relaxed. The fast paced digital world creates a culture where news, real and false, streams non-stop at us. We face one crises after another with no power to influence the outcome. Maybe it’s time to chill. Take time off from the non-stop nonsense. Schedule time each day to chill. Find creative ways to do something fun with friends or your soul mate. You’ll discover the non-stop news will still be streaming. But you’ll be relaxed and in a good space and better able to decide what’s important to you and what’s not important to you.

Today’s Good Word ~ Voice

Our voices are unique to each of us. Security systems offer voice prints as a security check up. Our voices are a primary way we communicate with each other. We adjust how our voice sounds to enhance our communication. How do you use the power of your voice? Do you use it to build walls or build bridges? Do you use it to heal or hide? We can use our voice for good and to inspire others. It’s a good choice.
