At times the word stop is a word we we can activate to improve our condition. There is a time to stop drinking and think about driving safely. There is a time to stop talking and start listening. There is a time to stop doing and become more aware of what is happening around us. When we know when to stop we get a clear picture of when to start, perhaps in a new and better direction.

Today’s Good Word ~ Weather
The weather in south Texas changed. Thunderstorms and heavy rains rolled through. Wherever I’ve traveled in the U.S. folks like to say, “hang around, the weather will change.” That’s also true of us and those we know. We never know from one minute to the next what will trigger a laugh, angry outburst, tears, or sense of profound happiness. It’s best to cut each other some slack, our emotional weather changes and changes frequently.
Today’s Good Word ~ Shake it Off
We all get hurt. We all get betrayed somewhere along the line. We all stumble and fall. What choice do we have but to shake it off, rise, and get going again. There’s no benefit in RSVPing to a pity party. Few people will attend and those that do will only take you further down the dark tunnel. Shake it off, rise, and get going again. Life will grab hold of you. You will feel the healing powers of life seeping into your body and mind. Life will once again be good.
Today’s Good Word ~ Sunshine
l lived in a northern climate where I experienced long periods of cloudiness. There were times when the clouds seemed so thick I thought that I’d never feel the sunshine again. When the weather pattern changed and the clouds released their grip the sun flooded the area. The bright sunshine renewed the spirit of people oppressed by the gloomy weather. We have opportunities every day to be the sunshine in someone’s life. We can lift the gloom that surrounds them. Brighten the corner where you live. We need your sunshine.
Today’s Good Word ~ Camera
If you’re like me, you use your smart phone’s camera a lot. A camera can be a metaphor for life. When we use our smart phone camera we take selfies, photos of friends, and important moments. Like our camera, we can try to capture the good times, smiles, laughter, and joy. If things are not working out, we can stop, adjust, adapt, and change our focus to what is joyful, good, and makes us a better person.
Today’s Word ~ Surround
Surround means to be everywhere around something. We are all surrounded. What kinds of people surround you? Are they supportive, encouraging, inspiring, and kind? If not, it may be time to change membership in the types of folks who surround you. What is the type of music that surrounds you? Does it motivate you? Does it give you an energy boost? Dose it elevate you and bring you joy? Or, does it make you angry, hyper, and flood your mind with thoughts that do not elevate you? Think of everything surrounding you, you have the power to begin renovating your surroundings.
Today’s Good Word ~ Whole
Don’t let one bad moment obliterate the whole day. Let the moment go and embrace the wholeness of the good things the day holds for you. When we stare at the dark moment, we lose sight of the totality of our potential experience. If one counted the good things that happened during a day and the negative moments, the ratio would be 100 to 1 in favor of the good things. Look at the whole picture not a tiny moment. You’re going to have a great day.
Today’s Good Word ~ Start
Start with the tough tasks and the easy ones will fall into place. We all share a defense mechanism where we find something else to do instead of facing the tough tasks. The best way is to start by diving right in. When my students were writing their dissertations, some found it nearly impossible to start writing. I’d tell them I want the first sentence to the first paragraph on the first page. I didn’t care about the quality of the sentence. I wanted to read a sentence. Once the student started with the first sentence, it became easier. It’s true with all the tough tasks we face. Start, do something, anything. The rest follows.

Take time to enjoy a meal and savor every bite.
Take time to look at the sunset.
Take time to be quiet and enjoy the silence.
Today’s Good Word ~ Inspire
We inspire others through our quiet actions where we put ourselves on the line for others. Inspiring acts are other centered, Inspiring acts don’t count the cost or time. Inspiring acts seek the best in others. Inspiring acts leave no room for the ego. Live your life as an inspiration that others want to emulate.
