🌾 Today’s Poem ~ A Noiseless Patient Spider

A Noiseless Patient Spider

Walt Whitman

A noiseless patient spider,
I marked where on a promontory it stood isolated,
Marked how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launched forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.

And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be formed, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the gossamer thread you fling catch somewhere, O my soul.

😎 Today’s Happy Brain ~ A Memory Trick

Convert Words to Pictures

This essential tip works for two reasons: First, we naturally remember visual cues better than words, and second, the more senses you involve in learning or storing something, the better you will be at recalling it. Say you need to remember to submit a proposal to a client at 10 p.m. for a meeting the next day. You commit your task to memory by visualizing your proposal—a stack of papers—on top of an alarm clock that reads “10 p.m.” The trick here is to make the picture vivid. So visualize an alarm clock, time flashing, alarm blaring, and focus on it. 10 p.m. … proposal … got it.

🤗 A Better Life ~ You’re Doing Fine, Roll On!

Roll On, Roll On, It’s Going to be Okay

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. ” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today’s Smile 😃

Joe: “My girlfriend is 21 and I’m 45. We go out to eat in a restaurant but the whole time I have to deal with being accused of having a trophy.”

Pete: “That’s too bad, Joe.”

Joe: “It sure was, it completely ruined our 10 year anniversary.”

🍎 Today’s Health Question ~ Can Sitting too Long Be Bad for Your Health?

True or False: Getting up and walking around every 30 minutes is a healthy choice.

Answer:

True: Sitting too long can be linked to obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure. It lowers “good” cholesterol, which helps get rid of the bad stuff, and raises triglyceride levels. This is true even if you exercise regularly. If you work at a desk, try to get up and move around every 30 minutes, or think about using a standing desk.

🍎 Today’s Health Question ~ Is the Nonstop News About COVID-19 Making You anxious?

True or False: Closely following the COVID-19 news can create anxiety?

Answer:

True: If you’re feeling anxious from reading or listening to the constant coverage of COVID-19, chances are you’re consuming too much of it, too often. Consider selecting two to three reputable sources to gather your information from, and aim to read, listen to, or watch them just once or twice a day. You may want to select one national or international news source, for example, and one local news source. Sign up for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) COVID-19 newsletter to get a quick dose of trusted information. And, avoid reading the news before you go to bed, as this may interfere with your sleep.

Today’s Smile 😃

Joe: “My girlfriend thinks she’s a singer. I can always tell when she is at the door.”

Pete: “Does she sing to you from the door?”

Pete: “No. She can’t find the key, and she never know when to come in.”
