A Better Life ~ What Kind of Life are You Creating?

We create our lives moment by moment. We can ask ourselves, ‘What kind of life am I creating?’ Is it a life I will look back upon and be proud? Is it a life I will look back upon with regrets? It’s never too late to change the trajectory of one’s life. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming to create a well lived life. We can look at each sunrise and become the authors of a new life’s chapter. When we take it a chapter (day) at a time, we create the building blocks of the edifice we are creating. At the end of the day, if we reflect on our day we can see the places that need course corrections or places that we want to repeat. Create a magnificent life worthy of you. You are unique, one of a kind, and you have something special to offer to life.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Is it Time Reach Higher?

How high are you aiming? Are you goals worthy of your innate ability? Dare to reach for something beyond your imagined reach. Commit to attaining it. Narrow your focus. You will astound yourself on how far you were able to go beyond what you believed was possible.

Today’s Good Word ~ Inspiring

Inspiring ~ Def: encouraging, or making you feel you want to do something

I like being around people who inspire me. They inspire me by example, words, or challenging me to lift my game. Inspiring people let us know we can be better, do better, and reach for things we thought were beyond us. There is a an elderly woman who lives in my neighborhood. She needs a walker to get around. Does that stop her. No. She drives a large pickup truck, works in her garden, and lives alone. She’s an inspiration. I know a physical therapist who is one of nine children and she is the first in her family to go to college and graduate. She is an inspiration. I see men and women who lost legs in combat wearing prosthetics and not letting the loss of a limb limit them. They are an inspiration. We inspire others through the lives we lead. Our actions speak significantly louder than preached words. Let your life become an inspiring example to all who pass your way.

Something to Think About

Critiquing and criticizing have their place. When properly used, critiquing and criticism make something better. They focus on the issue and not the person. When critiquing and criticism are aimed at a person, they are counterproductive. They often create a hostile situation where lines are drawn. The person being criticized becomes defensive and seeks to defend him/herself. The more important issues are replaced with angry responses. This happens on multiple levels seldom leading to productive ends. Another way is to collaboratively examine issues. It’s hard work and takes longer, in the end, agreements are more likely reached. Difference makers do the hard work! Three cheers for difference makers.

Today’s Smile ~

Joe: “Right after our baby was born, the Midwife asked me if I had a name yet.”

Pete: “What did you tell her?”

Joe: “I said, yes, it’s Joe. She told me Joe was great name, then she added, what should we call the baby?”

Today’s Poem ~ Clearing at Dawn

Clearing at Dawn

Li Po

The fields are chill, the sparse rain has stopped;
The colours of Spring teem on every side.
With leaping fish the blue pond is full;
With singing thrushes the green boughs droop.
The flowers of the field have dabbled their powdered cheeks;
The mountain grasses are bent level at the waist.
By the bamboo stream the last fragment of cloud
Blown by the wind slowly scatters away.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Good Friends

“Good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them, but you know they’re always there.”

~ Unknown

Something to Think About

When I think about unhappy or dissatisfied folks I think of folks who are self-centered. Their world revolves around themselves and their needs. Those who are external to their self-centered world are satellites orbiting and waiting for instructions on how to serve the self-centered ego. The happiest and most satisfied folks I know are other-centered. They connect with whomever enters their world. They take a sincere interest in them. They offer to help others, encourage others, and rejoice with them when the other succeeds. Ironically, being other-centered doesn’t limit success, it gives it an extra boost. When we build others we are building ourselves. Build on!
