Today’s Health Tip ~ How Quickly do Your Scrapes & Cuts Heal?

A Healthy Diet Speeds Up Healing

For a scrape, cut or larger wound to quickly and sufficiently heal, it needs an adequate supply of nutrients. If you heal slowly, poor nutrition may be to blame. Poor diets affect the strength of new tissue, recovery time and how well your body fights off any infection that creeps into a wound. Studies have shown that sufficient intake of calories, protein and nutrients is essential for proper wound healing. Focus on maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. Your immune system will thank you.

Today’s Poem ~ Joy

Joy

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

My heart is like a little bird
That sits and sings for very gladness.
Sorrow is some forgotten word,
And so, except in rhyme, is sadness.

The world is very fair to me –
Such azure skies, such golden weather,
I’m like a long caged bird set free,
My heart is lighter than a feather.

I rise rejoicing in my life;
I live with love of God and neighbour;
My days flow on unmarred by strife,
And sweetened by my pleasant labour.

O youth! O spring! O happy days,
Ye are so passing sweet, and tender,
And while the fleeting season stays,
I revel care-free, in its splendour.

Today’s Smile

Joe: “My doctor told me I was overweight and needed to go on a diet.”

Pete: “Did your doctor give you any advice?”

Joe: “My doctor was blunt. He said, ‘I’m not going to sugarcoat my advice because you’ll eat that too.'”

Something to Think About

Some folks seem to get all the breaks. Things fall just right for them. For most, it all about how deep the desire is and amount of grit one has if they’re to get anywhere. The road is often long and filled with dead ends. They continue to work in the darkness, often wondering if their chance will come where they can shine. I read a recent story of a coach who was hired by a storied sports program. He says, it took him 56 years to get to the top and now he’s going to get to show what he can do. I like his story. It tells us to keep grinding and never quit. One never knows when their chance will come. If one doesn’t quit, they’ll be ready when the door opens.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Be Grateful for What was

Learn from your past, don’t live in the past. Find things you are grateful for in your past, make peace with the past, them move on.

A Better Life ~ Take the Time

Take the time to call a friend and ask how he/she is doing.

Take the time to tell the people in your life that you love them.

Take the Time to relax.

Take the time to be grateful.

Take the time to tell co-workers how much you appreciate them.

Take the time to listen to your children (they grow up fast).

Take the time to do small acts of kindness.

You never know when you won’t have anymore time.

Today’s Good Word ~ Renew

Renew – Def: to increase the life of or replace something old.

Renew speaks to bringing something that has been, up to date so it can continue to function well, and, perhaps function at a higher level. We can renew our commitment to the special person in our life and make the relationship stronger. We can renew our emotional energy by going on vacation. We can renew our bodies by eating healthy and regularly exercising. We can renew our minds by reading good books, watching movies that inspire us. When we commit to renewing ourselves we take a long look in the mirror and reflect on what needs to be changed. When we accept renewal as a part of life, we adapt more easily to our changing environment. Don’t be frightened of renewing, adapting, and changing. You’ll be ready for anything that comes your way.

Joe: “I recently saw a film about online dating?”

Pete: “How was it?”

Joe: “Nothing like it was online.”

Today’s Inspiration ~ Is it Time to Change Your Story?

“The only thing keeping you from what you want is your story about why you can’t have it.”

Today’s Health Tip ~ Are You Familiar with Polyphenols?

Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants that can be found in a variety of foods. Some of the highest sources of polyphenols include:

  • Tea and coffee — One study showed that polyphenols in coffee and green tea could help prevent photoaging and hyperpigmentation. Just be mindful of how much caffeine your system can handle, or choose decaf when you can.
  • Grapes — Grape seeds, grape skin and grape juice contain polyphenols like resveratrol, phenolic acids, anthocyanins and flavonoids.
  • Chocolate — Beside antioxidants and vitamins, chocolate (especially dark chocolate) contains flavanols, or a type of polyphenol. They reduce rough texture in your skin and protect against sun damage. So, rejoice in knowing that you can have a few ounces of chocolate a day! Just make sure it contains 60% to 70% cocoa.
