Today’s Power Thought ~ Grind it Out

Having a bad day? Suck it up! We all have bad days. You’ll get through it if you don’t wallow in the mud. Suck it up, keep moving, and grind it out. You can do it.

Today’s Health Tip ~ What Should be in a Meal Replacement Bar?

The only way to make an informed choice is to read the list of ingredients, nutrition label, (ignore the front label) and compare products. Ideally, the meal replacement will contain ingredients that don’t sound like foreign chemicals found in a chemistry lab! Nutrients should be primarily complex carbohydrates, with small amounts of simple sugars and a bit of fat, along with a moderate amount of protein.

So how can you tell which ones are worth the hype?  The key is hidden in the ingredients list. Look for something that has at least 10 grams of protein per serving, which is either entirely or predominantly derived from wholesome sources; nuts, egg whites, seeds, and almond butter are all good contenders.

Look for products that fit the following guidelines:

  • 220-230 calories per serving
  • Less than 5 grams of fat per serving
  • 3-5 grams of fiber per serving
  • 10-15 grams of protein per serving
  • Fortified with a third of daily vitamins and minerals

Something to Think About

We’ve got one life to live. How’s it going for you? If it’s going great, keep it rolling. If it’s not going so well, here’s some good news. Each sunrise is a new chance. Each sunrise is a chance to change direction. Each sunrise offers a new opportunity to change our attitude toward what’s going on. One thing is sure if things are not going well and you keep going down the same road, the outcome isn’t going change. Slam the brakes, take a different road, you deserve a good life.

Today’s Good Word ~ Can

Can – Def: to be able to.

Yes you can! You can do it! You can overcome any challenge you are currently facing, if you don’t quit. We may not always win, however, as long as we keep trying we have a chance. It is better to die trying them to give up. Can is an operational word for optimistic people. can is the password to all future success. I can do this is the mantra. Remember, yes I can, yes I can.

A Better Life – Don’t Burn Bridges

We have dustups with colleagues, relatives, and neighbors. We may dislike our job and our supervisors. all it is, is the human experience.. Don’t burn bridges as you walk away. You may want to walk back over them someday. I know I’ve walked back over a couple of bridges I wanted to burn. I’m glad I didn’t. it made all the difference in my journey.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Fuel Up

It’s your life – fill it with the best fuel possible: a can-do, never quit, never give up attitude.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Eating for a Healthy Colon

Want to keep your colon healthy? Use these two diet tips:

  1. Eat a nutrient-dense diet
  2. Include more fiber-rich foods

“Eating a nutrient-dense, high-fiber diet not only keeps the walls of your colon strong, but it can also prevent hemorrhoids or pouches in your colon,” says Kate Zeratsky, a Mayo Clinic registered dietitian nutritionist. “It also may prevent colon polyps and, potentially, cancer.”

Fiber-rich foods, like fruits and veggies, whole grains, nuts and seeds, are also more nutrient-dense. And the fiber keeps you regular and controls the amount of bacteria in your colon. “The nutrients in those foods also may be beneficial in preventing digestive diseases as well as other chronic diseases, such as diabetes, and help you manage your weight,” says Zeratsky. And when increasing fiber in your diet, do it gradually, and drink plenty of water.
