Something to Think About

No matter how much we complain, life will go on. It doesn’t stop. It doesn’t listen to us. It just keeps going on and on. We may as well hang on for the ride and enjoy it. Each day is a new story. Each day is a new beginning. Each day is a new adventure. We are the stars in our adventures. What we make of each day is in our hands. Here is hoping you create a masterpiece with your day.

A Better Life ~ Letting Go of the ‘Got To’s’

If you let go of the “got to do” you usually get to all you got to do without the mental pressure. Think about it, what’s the worse thing that could happen if you don’t get to all your “got to do’s?” Most likely you’ll have an inconvenience or a chance to do something different. That might be a great change of pace.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Light it Up

Flick the switch, make today a great day. Greet everyone with a smile and a “Hello, how are you?” You’ll shine so bright everyone who passes by will reach for their sunglasses.

Today’s Good Word ~ Tenacity

Tenacity – Def: The determination to continue what you are doing

When life is moving along smoothly, there’s no need to turn the dial up on our tenacity. It’s when we’re slogging through the tough times that we need tenacity. Tenacity is our ability to hang in there when the going gets tough. It’s the strength and determination to refuse to quit no matter how much time is left in the game. I think we all have a tenacity gene, turn it on in the dark hours and fight on. Neve quit, never give in, never stop trying.

Today’s Health Tip ~ The Brain Likes Healthy Foods

The type of food you eat. Your food choices may also influence your calorie intake, and not just because of their specific calorie content. One 2019 study published in Cell Metabolism found that eating processed foods seems to spur people to eat more calories compared with eating unprocessed foods. “People who ate the ultra-processed food gained weight,” says Dr. Stanford. Each group was given meals with the same number of calories and instructed to eat as much as they wanted, but when participants ate the processed foods, they ate 500 calories more each day on average. The same people’s calorie intake decreased when they ate the unprocessed foods.

What’s the lesson? Not all food is created equal. “The brain likes foods that are healthy, that are in their natural form,” says Dr. Stanford.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Use Your Time Wisely

“Life is short and we have never too much time for gladdening the hearts of those who are travelling the dark journey with us. Oh be swift to love, make haste to be kind.”

~ Henri Frederic Amiel

Today’s Poem ~ Now

Now!

Robert Browning

Out of your whole life give but a moment!
All of your life that has gone before,
All to come after it, — so you ignore,
So you make perfect the present, condense,
In a rapture of rage, for perfection’s endowment,
Thought and feeling and soul and sense,
Merged in a moment which gives me at last
You around me for once, you beneath me, above me —
Me, sure that, despite of time future, time past,
This tick of life-time’s one moment you love me!
How long such suspension may linger? Ah, Sweet,
The moment eternal — just that and no more —
When ecstasy’s utmost we clutch at the core,
While cheeks burn, arms open, eyes shut, and lips meet!

Today’s Smile

Joe: “I tried starting a hot air balloon business.”

Pete: “How did it go?”

Joe: “I couldn’t get it off the ground.”

Something to Think About

Difficult truths, especially when they are close to us, are hard to admit. The phrase, truth hurts, is especially applicable in these situations. When we don’t face the difficult truths in our lives we perpetuate an illusion that denies the problems created by the difficult truths. A practical application is a family who has a member who is an alcoholic. When family member’s act co-dependently and refuse to acknowledge the family members alcoholism, everyone is hurt. The hurt continues until the difficult truth is brought into the light. This happens on a family level and on a national level. It’s always better to face up to difficult truths.

A Better Life ~ Really? We Aways Did it That Way.

We always did it that way doesn’t mean we have to keep doing it that way. It may be better to let the old way go. There are good reasons to examine what we’re doing and ask, ‘why am I doing this?” If what we are doing isn’t beneficial, it’s time to change to something more beneficial. I have a friend who goes to a coast cottage his wife and he inherited each summer. They have been doing this since they were married. The cottage and scenery are nice, but what have they missed because they are stuck doing what they always do each summer? When we seek new ways of doing things, we engage actively in the creative process of living.
