Today’s Good Word ~ Purpose

Purpose – Def: why you do something or why something exists

Here are two questions we have to answer at some point in our life. What am I doing with my life? What purpose am I serving? When life is purpose-less, we drift, we have no anchor and no permanent port to seek. When life is purpose-filled, we are reaching out to others whether it is through our work, creative actions, or specific service. Mystics from all the world’s great religions speak of purpose as one of service to others. Our purpose becomes our why and if we have a why we have a reason to get up each morning.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Let it Go

If you’re holding on too tightly, you may miss the opportunity to leap aboard as the train passes by. There are times when we have to let go of what we have to grasp hold of something even better.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Muscle Cramps Bugging You?

Muscle cramps are an uncomfortable symptom characterized by painful, involuntary contractions of a muscle or part of a muscle. Although the exact cause isn’t always known, intense exercise, neuromuscular abnormalities, medical conditions, an electrolyte imbalance, medication use, and dehydration are thought to be common contributors. Some research shows that replacing certain nutrients, including potassium, sodium, and magnesium, may help counteract muscle cramps. Plus, deficiencies in nutrients like magnesium, vitamin D, and certain B vitamins may increase the chances of muscle cramps. Eating nutrient-dense foods rich in particular vitamins and minerals may help decrease muscle cramping and prevent it from occurring in the first place.

Today’s Poem ~ The Child’s faith is new

The Child’s faith is new

Emily Dickinson

The Child’s faith is new —
Whole — like His Principle —
Wide — like the Sunrise
On fresh Eyes —
Never had a Doubt —
Laughs — at a Scruple —
Believes all sham
But Paradise —

Credits the World —
Deems His Dominion
Broadest of Sovereignties —
And Caesar — mean —
In the Comparison —
Baseless Emperor —
Ruler of Nought —
Yet swaying all —

Grown bye and bye
To hold mistaken
His pretty estimates
Of Prickly Things
He gains the skill
Sorrowful — as certain —
Men — to anticipate
Instead of Kings —

Today’s Smile

Pete: “What did the teacher do?”

Joe: “He sent me to the corner, he said it was 90 degrees.

Something To Think About

We are experiencing an extensive drought in South Texas. The grass in my yard is now dormant. Prayers in church are for rain. The water company is rationing water use. it’s a lot like life. We all go through real tough times where we experience our personal drought. We can complain, we can be angry, and we can blame other people for our drought. Our only choice though, is to live through the drought with the sincere belief that it will end. And, when it ends we will be ready to celebrate. I hope you’re celebrating now.

A Better Life ~ Slow Down

Is it time to slow down? Everywhere I go I see people rushing. I wonder what is so important that makes them lose connection to the people around them. When I’m at the supermarket, I’ll often have a near collision with someone pushing a food carriage as if it were in a race. The same is true on the roadway, speed is of the essence. I think some folks are racing to see who can get to the next red light the fastest. Slowing down isn’t stopping, it’s more like becoming aware of what is happening around us. When we become aware of what is happening it changes our pace, much like changing the beat of the music.

Today’s Good Word ~ Silence

Silence – Def: period without any soundcomplete quiet.

As I write this blog entry, I turned off streaming music. Ah, silence. I do not experience complete silence. I hear the sounds of the washing machine. I hear a bird singing outside my widow, and my stomach has an annoying habit of making a strange sound every now and then. Yet, in this atmosphere, my mind is free from external noise that interferes with my thinking. Thoughts now race across the movie screen of my mind. Were they always racing across my mind? I don’t know, but in silence, I can hear them. Periods of silence are a good thing. They allow us to come into contact with ourselves. Don’t fear meeting yourself, I have a hunch you may have a new BFF.

Today’s Power Thought ~ What is True?

Because I think something is true, doesn’t make it true. When we begin to question everything seeking greater knowledge and understanding, we come closer to discovering what is true.
