Today’s Poem ~ Our Prayer of Thanks

Our Prayer of Thanks
Carl Sandburg
For the gladness here where the sun is shining at
evening on the weeds at the river,
Our prayer of thanks.

For the laughter of children who tumble barefooted and
bareheaded in the summer grass,
Our prayer of thanks.

For the sunset and the stars, the women and the white
arms that hold us,
Our prayer of thanks.

God,
If you are deaf and blind, if this is all lost to you,
God, if the dead in their coffins amid the silver handles
on the edge of town, or the reckless dead of war
days thrown unknown in pits, if these dead are
forever deaf and blind and lost,
Our prayer of thanks.

God,
The game is all your way, the secrets and the signals and
the system; and so for the break of the game and
the first play and the last.
Our prayer of thanks.

Today’s Smile

Joe: “My neighbor knocked on my door at 2 a.m. and said, “Do you know it’s 2 a.m.?”

Pete: “What did you say?”

Joe: “I thanked him for telling me the time and then invited him in to hear me play my bagpipes.”

Today’s Power Thought ~ How to Approach the Day

Take what is good from the past, jump into the present with great enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with great confidence.

A Better Life ~ Strong, Healthy Relationships

Couples who have strong healthy relationships live, on average, seven years longer than those not in strong healthy relationships. There are multiple factors that build and sustain strong healthy relationships. One important factor is forgiveness. Human beings can screw up a perfect recipe. It happens all the time. No one is immune. When we learn to forgive ourselves and forgive our partner, it makes it easier to let go of the hurt and move on. We discover the sun is brighter, the sky bluer, and all is right.

Something to Think About

Many of life’s successes come from a cumulative effort. It’s the dedication and commitment to the daily effort that results in achieving the goal. It happens in the gym. Those who regularly exercise find, over time, that they are getting in better shape. It happens in getting to the right weight. It’s the small cumulative efforts that make all the difference. It’s in the small acts of love we give to our partner that builds a loving relationship. Commit to the small steps. Don’t stop stepping. You’ll surprise yourself and others.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Oranges for Eyes and Immune System

Oranges Taste Good and are Good For You

Loaded with vitamin C, oranges are also solid sources of folate—important for cell maintenance and repair. They contain potassium and vitamins B1 and A, which are essential for vision and immune function. And the pectin in oranges absorbs unhealthy cholesterol from the other foods you eat.

Today’s Poem ~ Winds of Fate

Winds of Fate

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

One ship drives east and another drives west
With the selfsame winds that blow.
Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales
Which tells us the way to go.
Like the winds of the seas are the ways of fate,
As we voyage along through the life:
Tis the set of a soul
That decides its goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

Today’s Good Word ~ Unknown

It’s all unknown. No one is sure if he/she will be alive in the next moment. If it’s all unknown, don’t fear the unknown. Jump into the unknown with two feet and great energy. There’s a treasure trove waiting for you in the unknown. Don’t look for a safety net, you won’t fall. Don’t look for a guide, you’ve already got an inner GPS that is preprogrammed to take you successfully through each unknown you encounter.
