Today’s Poem ~ Images

Images
Richard Aldington
I

Like a gondola of green scented fruits
Drifting along the dark canals of Venice,
You, O exquisite one,
Have entered into my desolate city.

II

The blue smoke leaps
Like swirling clouds of birds vanishing.
So my love leaps forth toward you,
Vanishes and is renewed.

III

A rose-yellow moon in a pale sky
When the sunset is faint vermilion
In the mist among the tree-boughs
Art thou to me, my beloved.

IV

A young beech tree on the edge of the forest
Stands still in the evening,
Yet shudders through all its leaves in the light air
And seems to fear the stars –
So are you still and so tremble.

V

The red deer are high on the mountain,
They are beyond the last pine trees.
And my desires have run with them.

VI

The flower which the wind has shaken
Is soon filled again with rain;
So does my heart fill slowly with tears,
Until you return.

Today’s Power Thought ~ A Simple Formula

It takes hard work to build muscle. It takes consistency and progressively heavier weights. If we want to improve in any area of our lives, at any age, the formula is the same, hard work, consistency, and progressive challenges.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Want to Avoid Getting a Bacterial Infection at the Gym?

Fitness facilities can be germ factories

  • Safeguard your skin. Keep cuts and scraps clean and covered with a bandage until healed. Keep a barrier such as an item of clothing or a towel between your skin and equipment that others use, such as weight-training machines and sauna benches. Always wear flip-flops or shower shoes in wet areas.
  • Bring your own exercise mat. Gym mats, like those used for practicing yoga, may not get cleaned between classes, so it’s safest to tote one with you.
  • Practice good hygiene. Wash your hands before and after playing sports or using shared equipment. If soap and water are not available, the CDC advises using a hand sanitizer that’s at least 60 percent alcohol. Use sprays or wipes to disinfect gym equipment both before and after you use it. Shower after exercising or using a hot tub or swimming pool.
  • Do your laundry. Stash sweaty clothes, swimsuits, and used towels in a plastic bag separate from the rest of your gear and wash them after every use. “Evidence shows that the numbers of skin bacteria build up each time we wear a piece of clothing without washing it,” Vasquez says. Heat kills bacteria, so she advises washing and drying items at the warmest temperature level listed on the clothing tag.
  • Be stingy with your stuff. Avoid sharing personal items that touch bare skin, such as razors and towels.

A Better Life ~ Kindness Works

Kindness is the glue that holds a relationship together. When we are kind to each other, we express our love in numerous ways. We stop thinking about ourself and use our time thinking about the other. The relational energy created by two people who think more of each other than the self, expands exponentially and builds a lasting, forever kind of relationship.

Something to Think About

The less one needs, the freer one is. It takes lots of introspection and reflection to make choices about what one really needs. Once one determines what one really needs, life changes. In contrast, the chase to accumulate wants only leads to more wants in an never ending spiraling circle. Make a list of what you really need. Put it all down. Keep the list in a place where you can review it daily. Over the next two weeks see if you can whittle it down to no more than a half dozen needs. You’ll discover what is important to you.

Today’s Good Word ~ Follow

There are times in our lives when we follow. Our big decision is to decide who we want to follow. Does the person we are following lift us up and inspire us to be better. Or, is the person we are following self-centered and only seeking our adulation. When we choose wisely, the person we follow will show us new pathways, encourage us to move out on our own, and cheer us from the sidelines.

Today’s Inspiration ~ You are Stronger than You Know

“I closed my eyes and let the music flow through me, cleansing my soul of all fear and sin and reminding me that I am always better than I think and stronger than I believe.” ~ Paulo Coelho

Today’s Smile

Joe: “All my relationships turn out to be a lot like algebra?”

Pete: “How so?”

Joe: “Every time I look at an X I wonder Y.”

Today’s Good Word ~ Desire

When we desire something we place great emphasis in attaining it. The stronger our desire the greater our effort to acquire what we desire. People with addictions of any sort will resort to any any means to satisfy their desire. Desire lights the fire of passion to chase desirable ends. Here’s hoping your desire lights your passion to make a difference for yourself, those close to you, and those in your community. The world will be better for it.

Today’s Smile

Joe: “My psychiatrist told me I suffer from insanity.”

Pete: “What did you say?”

Joe: “I said I was enjoying every minute of it.”
