Thanks ~ A Poem by Henrik Johan Ibsen

Thanks

Henrik Johan Ibsen

HER griefs were the hours
When my struggle was sore,–
Her joys were the powers
That the climber upbore.

Her home is the boundless
Free ocean that seems
To rock, calm and soundless,
My galleon of dreams.

Half hers are the glancing
Creations that throng
With pageant and dancing
The ways of my song.

My fires when they dwindle
Are lit from her brand;
Men see them rekindle
Nor guess by whose hand.

Of thanks to requite her
No least thought is hers,–
And therefore I write her,
Once, thanks in a verse.

It’s Like Exercise, No Pain, No Gain

“One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful.” ~ Sigmund Freud

Today’s Thought: Don’t Quit, Press On!

We all need dreams. Dreams come true on TV, in the movies, and in books. In real life we have to prove we’re worthy of achieving the dream. We have to endure the struggles, setbacks, and periods of time when it seems we’re not making progress and we’re never going to catch a break. Lots of folks walk away from their dreams. They find the struggle to hard. They can’t handle the disappointments. For those who continue to work hard, endure the struggles, and patiently press on, unexpectedly it happens. They cross over to a place they thought of but never knew they could get there. I know this to be true. I’ve witnessed it my life and in the lives of friends. Stay true to your dream. Hang tough. When in doubt, don’t quit, press on.

Today’s Poem: Consolation by Frank Barbour Coffin

Consolation

Frank Barbour Coffin

Friends can’t you tell me something?
I am weary and worn tonight.
The day has gone like a shadow
And only the evening is light.

Tell me about the Master,
Of the burdensome hills he trod,
When the tears and blood from his anguish
Dropped down on Judea’s sod.

Tell me about the Master,
Of the wrongs he freely forgave,
Of His love and His tender compassion,
Of His love that is mighty to save.

For my heart is restless and weary
Of the woes and temptations of life,
Of all the treacherous conflicts
Of falsehood, and malice, and strife.

So tell me the sweet old story
That falls on each wound like a balm,
And my heart now bruised and broken,
Shall grow patient, strong, and calm.

Feel Good Tip ~ Going to Church

When I go to church I feel good. I feel connected with others who worship with me. I feel connected to the music. I feel connected prayers the priest says at mass. I look around and watch those who are at mass with me praying knowing that they, like me, have issues they are struggling with; and they, like me, seek help and peace through their prayers.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Wipe Away the Darkness

“Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: you don’t give up (Anne Lamont).”

Hope has its genesis in the struggles. Hope has its genesis in the pain. Hope is the candlelight in the darkest of nights. It speaks to us to go on. It whispers to us, don’t quit, it will be alright. If we trust hope, hope’s flame will grow brighter and wipe away the darkness.

A Better Life ~ What We Need to Hear

One of greatest gifts one can offer another is to encourage them that tomorrow will better than today. Life’s struggles and disappointments can get us down. No one is an immune to them. When we’re feeling low and can’t see more than a short way in front of us, we need to hear tvoices that encourage us. You can be that person for someone today. If you’re feeling feeling down, I’m hear to tell you, hang in there, TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER THAN TODAY.
