How Gratitude Can Heal: Lessons from Nature and Poetry

In this inspiring episode, we explore the profound power of gratitude and how it can transform our lives. Set on a beautiful September day in South Texas, we reflect on the everyday gifts that surround us—like a gentle breeze, a gecko changing color, or a delicious cup of coffee. These small, often overlooked moments hold immense value.

Through the wisdom of poets like Mary Oliver and Rumi, we dive deep into how gratitude helps us heal from grief. We’ll discuss how moving toward gratitude brings peace and helps us see the loved ones we’ve lost as eternal gifts that remain with us always. We also explore how gratitude fosters humility, strengthens our relationships, and allows love to flow freely into and out of our lives.

Join us as we navigate the journey from grief to healing, uncovering the beauty in the everyday and embracing love as the greatest gift of all.

Today’s Thought: You Have So Much to Offer!

When I was in the army bootcamp, the drill sergeant would flick the lights on at 4 a.m. and scream, “Get up, if you’re snoozing, you’re losing.” The exact expression was much more colorful, then he added a few more unforgettable lines. I was motivated. I didn’t want his wrath. The lesson has remained with me, you’re snoozing, you’re losing. We each have so much to offer. Part of our life’s work is to discover what our great gifts are and then put them to use to benefit others. There’s no age requirement. The amazing thing is that as we move through life, we continue to discover new gifts within ourselves. We are a treasure that yields to continuous discovery.

Episode 47:Discovering the Gifts Hidden in My Suffering

In Episode 47 of my podcast, Journey from Grief to Healing, I journal about the gifts I am receiving through my experience of suffering. M told me that discovering the gifts hidden in my suffering wouldn’t ease my grieving or suffering but they would pave the way toward healing. I am discovering she is right.

Feel Good Tip of the Day ~ Just Roll With It

We’re in for a stretch of scorching heat in south Texas. Temperature may climb up to 106 F in the city and much hotter in the desert lands to the west. I like the heat. I don’t have much of a choice. There are some things in life you have to roll with if you want to be happy. Why let the little things knock you off balance? Roll with what you can’t change. Focus on the gifts you have and be grateful and you’ll discover today and each day following will be a great day.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Every Problem Carries a Gift

Every problem in your life carries a gift inside it (Richard Bach).” No one really wants problems; unfortunately, problems happen and they frequently happen. Problems are life’s best teachers. We don’t pay tuition. We do get passing or failing grades. They don’t go away until we get it right. Next time you have a problem, ask it to teach you the lesson it has for you. Then thank it for its gift to you.

Today’s Poem ~ Sonnet XXV

Sonnet XXV

Pablo Neruda

Before I loved you, love, nothing was my own:
I wavered through the streets, among
Objects:
Nothing mattered or had a name:
The world was made of air, which waited.

I knew rooms full of ashes,
Tunnels where the moon lived,
Rough warehouses that growled ‘get lost’,
Questions that insisted in the sand.

Everything was empty, dead, mute,
Fallen abandoned, and decayed:
Inconceivably alien, it all

Belonged to someone else – to no one:
Till your beauty and your poverty
Filled the autumn plentiful with gifts.

A Better Life ~ What We Need to Hear

One of greatest gifts one can offer another is to encourage them that tomorrow will better than today. Life’s struggles and disappointments can get us down. No one is an immune to them. When we’re feeling low and can’t see more than a short way in front of us, we need to hear tvoices that encourage us. You can be that person for someone today. If you’re feeling feeling down, I’m hear to tell you, hang in there, TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER THAN TODAY.

Today’s Power Thought ~ What Are You Running Toward?

When we keep running to have more we never reach the finish line. The finish line is always moving away from us. When we strive to be more, we become more authentic, we develop our potential, and we use our gifts to benefits society.

Something to Think About

Each of us has a special gift. Some may have the gift of music. Some may have the gift of styling hair. Some may have the gift of cooking. Some may have the gift of healing. There are an infinite number of gifts. When we polish our gifts and put them to the benefit of others, our gifts take on special meaning. They make life better for everyone. Polish your gift and put it out there for others to enjoy.
