Healthy Tips: Morning Rituals

Create a morning ritual to start the day calmly.

What is your morning ritual? Do you have a ritual that will get you centered and focused on the day ahead? I’ve developed a routine that works for me. When I wake up I begin by thanking God for a new day, the gift of health, the gifts of my daughters, neighbors, and friends. I then pray traditional prayers that have been part of my life since childhood. I pray for my daughters, those I’ll meet today, for my country and church, for peace, and for the souls of my wife, parents, and those who have touched my life. I get out of bed announcing, “I’m going to have a great day.” I do a series of yoga stretches, the plank, and pushups. I turn the coffee on so it will be ready when I finishes showering and dressing. I drink a warm tall glass of lemon water and it’s off to the shower. By the time I am sitting down with my coffee, oatmeal, and blueberries, I am fired up and ready to take on the day. Impossible to miss having a great day.

Episode 12: My Prayers Went Unanswered and My Grieving Went on Unabated

Episode 12 from my Podcast: Journey from Grief to Healing M wants me to journal about unanswered prayers. I knew I was angry with God for letting Babe die. I didn’t realize how angry I felt. This journal was difficult for me to write. I knew it had to be done. I couldn’t continue to stuff my anger.

Feel Good Tip ~ Going to Church

When I go to church I feel good. I feel connected with others who worship with me. I feel connected to the music. I feel connected prayers the priest says at mass. I look around and watch those who are at mass with me praying knowing that they, like me, have issues they are struggling with; and they, like me, seek help and peace through their prayers.

Today’s Poem ~ Free Love

Free Love
Rabindranath Tagore
By all means they try to hold me secure who love me in this world.
But it is otherwise with thy love which is greater than theirs,
and thou keepest me free.

Lest I forget them they never venture to leave me alone.
But day passes by after day and thou art not seen.

If I call not thee in my prayers, if I keep not thee in my heart,
thy love for me still waits for my love.

Happy Thanksgiving ~ Thank You for Passing my Way

Prayer of Thanksgiving

by Walter Rauschenbusch

O God, we thank you for this earth, our home;
For the wide sky and the blessed sun,
For the salt sea and the running water,
For the everlasting hills
And the never-resting winds,
For trees and the common grass underfoot.
We thank you for our senses
By which we hear the songs of birds,
And see the splendor of the summer fields,
And taste of the autumn fruits,
And rejoice in the feel of the snow,
And smell the breath of the spring.
Grant us a heart wide open to all this beauty;
And save our souls from being so blind
That we pass unseeing
When even the common thornbush
Is aflame with your glory,
O God our creator,
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
