I’ve read a lot about mediation and how good it is for us. I don’t doubt it. It doesn’t work for me. Yet, I wonder if I’m meditating when I walk on a wilderness trail, canoe on a river, sip iced tea at an outside table and watch the world walk by. It’s important to quiet the mind, we only have to find out what works for us.
Better life
A Better Life ~ A New Best Friend
A friend got a new puppy three weeks ago. Two days after getting the puppy he emailed me and told me he was sure he made a mistake. The puppy was too much work. Now, three weeks he got the puppy he sent me an updated email; it seems that the puppy and he have become BF’s. Dogs have a way of getting into our heart and refusing to leave. They’ll love us unconditionally, teach us how to enjoy life, and live in the moment.
A Better Life ~ The World Needs You
Work is important for each of us. In many ways it defines us. We often ask a new acquaintance, “What do you do?” Some folks receive notoriety for their work. Most of us work in obscurity. Yet, our work is no less important. Whatever the work, it is important and valued. Value the work you do and value yourself for doing the work well. The world needs you. Thank you for the effort you put into your work.
A Better Life ~ The Rainbow Will Appear
There are somethings you don’t get over, you just get through. These are the tough things. We’ve no choice but to keep going, keep hoping, and keep looking for the rainbow up ahead. Keep on walking, the rainbow will appear at the right time.
A Better Life ~ Setting Worry Aside
I like to watch the birds and geckos in my yard. I don’t imagine they worry about goals, 401K retirement plans, inflation, or recessions. They go about their business working to get by to tomorrow. They seem to balance work and rest. No late nights or nights out with the boys or girls. They offer us several lessons: Strive for a balance between work and rest, work hard today and tomorrow will take care of itself.
A Better Life ~ Heart to Heart
Hearts speak with a different language that is only understood by another heart. When the heart speaks words are not needed. The other heart knows. For the heart to speak, the mind must quiet down. When the mind quiets down, the heart can hear the message from the heart sending its message.
A Better Life ~ Grabbing Moments
I’m at Starbucks. I like to work on my blog in my local coffee shop. The calendar may say fall, but it’s still summer in south Texas. Today’s high is again in the nineties. There’s lots of nice chatter going on in here. College students are collaborating. I’ve noticed a dating site get together – hope it works for them., Other folks are simply enjoying a time out. And, the smell of coffee fills the air. Anytime we can break away and grab a few moments to relax is a good time. Try to grab your moments every day.
A Better Life ~ A Peaceful Place
I went for a walk today. Two lizards ran across my path. A large buck stared at me from a distance. A red tail hawk sat on a branch overlooking a nearby meadow. I carried water with me. The south Texas sun shows no mercy in the afternoon. There were no other people walking on the trail I chose. I was alone with the sights and sounds and creatures of this pristine area. When I finished my walk, my mind was clear, my body wet with sweat, and my water bottle was empty. I was in a peaceful place. Here’s hoping you have such a place near you where you can go to clear your mind and regain a sense of peace.
A Better Life ~ The Way Love Works
We often take those close to us for granted believing they’ll always love us. That’s not the way love works. Love works like our muscles. If we want our muscles to be strong, we have to regularly exercise. It’s the same way with love, love needs to be exercised. Tell those close to you how much you love them. If they live at a distance, call, FaceTime, or Zoom. If your loved ones are close by, visit, give them a hug and kiss. C’mon, what are you waiting for? An RSVP?
A Better Life ~ Life is Better When You Feel Healthy
Life is better when we’re healthy. You know what it’s like to wake up with a back ache – ouch. It seems like we hurt all over. It feels so good when the back ache disappears into a memory. is it time to consider doing all the things that encourage good health and feeling good? You don’t have to start big, but start. A baby step at a time. Here are some ideas.
- If you like bread, knock it off a couple of days a week.
- If you like dessert after a meal or while you watch TV, switch out to fruit or popcorn a couple days a week.
- Go for a walk after dinner. You don’t have to walk a marathon, once around the block.
- Before you know it these small habits will take traction and you’ll be expanding them.
