Feel Good Tip for Today ~ We Feel Better After a Good Night’s Sleep

I enjoy a good night’s sleep. When I awake I can’t wait to get up and get after the day. I have the energy of a five year boy ready to explore the world. According the CDC there are some things we can do to push the odds in our favor to get a good night’s sleep;

  1. Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, relaxing, and at a comfortable temperature.
  2. Make the bedroom off limits to electronic devices. I have notifications turned off on my iPhone at 8 p.m. Although I stay up later, I don’t want the distraction.
  3. Eat earlier so your food is digested and say no to caffeine and alcohol before bedtime.
  4. A nice walk after dinner will help with digestion, relax you and prep your body for sleep.

Feel Good Tip of the Day ~ Let it Slide

When I was a young guy in the army, I did something I shouldn’t have done. A sergeant caught me. He could have got me into trouble, instead, he chewed me out (did he ever). I was grateful he let it slide. I never made the mistake again. I learned a valuable lesson, We all need a break now and then. Extending a merciful hand often pays much greater dividends than a slap.

Feel Good Tip for Today ~ Strawberries and Feeling Good

Fresh strawberries abound in south Texas. Want a feel good moment? Get a box of fresh strawberries (tip: smell them, if they have a strawberry fragrance, they’re ready for your palate) wash them, and fill a small bowl. Find a quiet space, sit down and savor each bite. You’ll come away feeling refreshed. It’s the small things that bring the happiest moments.

Feel Good Tip for Today ~ The Importance of Touch to Health & Happiness

Do you know what is the largest organ in the human body? If you said the skin, go to the head of the class. It is why we feel better after we’re hugged, after someone holds our hands, and much of what makes the act of making love an integral part of human life. In many cultures hugging or a small embrace upon meeting is natural. It has always seemed natural to me. A lot of it comes from the Italian culture in which I was raised. Now, research tells us that touch is essential to human happiness and health. Try it with those you love. It will soon become second nature to you.

Check out this YouTube video for a talk on the importance of touch as it relates to happiness and health.

Feel Good Tip for Today ~ Need a Reason to Smile?

Smiling Has a Positive Effect on Your Health

Smiling comes natural to me. I know I’m feeling good when I’m walking around beaming. Do you frequently smile? Or, are you someone who can’t think of a reason to smile? Being alive is the only reason I need to smile. Researchers are connecting smiling to our health. Here’s what they say:

Smiles might be good for our health. In the study, to be published in an upcoming issue of Psychological Science, researchers at the University of Kansas found that the act of smiling has a positive effect on our happiness and physical health, helping the heart recover more quickly after stressful events. Feel Good Tip for Today ~ Enjoy the Small Things

Enjoy the small things. You’ll discover how much happiness they bring.

This morning I woke to discover a favorite team won last night. That was good surprise. A bit later I got texts from my daughters (they always bring a smile to my face). I went to the gym and had a great workout (I love to sweat). While I worked out I chatted with fellow gym rats. My day only got better. Yes, it is the small things that make the big difference in one’s day. Enjoy every one of them.

Feel Good Tip of the Day ~ Letting Go of Illusions

When we let go of illusions we free ourselves and no longer have to defend something that doesn’t exist. When we are free of illusions we become free to pursue all that is true, good, and lasting. It takes heaps of courage to acknowledge one’s illusions. Those who have the courage to do so know the freedom it gives.

Kindness Works ~ A Kind Act Makes Our Brain Light Up

When We’re Kind to Other Our Brain Benefits

Physiologically, kindness can positively change your brain. Being kind boosts serotonin and dopamine, which are neurotransmitters in the brain that give you feelings of satisfaction and well-being, and cause the pleasure/reward centers in your brain to light up. Endorphins, which are your body’s natural pain killer, also can be released.
