Thinking Out Loud ~ Take the Chance on the Adventure

Joseph Campbell says in Reflections on the Art of Living, “Follow your bliss.  . . . The heroic life is living the individual adventure.  . . . Nothing is exciting. if you know what the outcome is going to be.  . . . You enter the forest at the darkest point. Where there is no path. Where there is a way or path it is someone else’s path. You are not on your own path. If you follow someone else’s way, you are not going to realize your potential.” P. 22

Note: When we are young, we often look up to adults we admire and want to be like them. If we’re fortunate, the adults we admire step aside and help us to discover our gift and then encourage us to find the path that leads to developing our gift and sharing it with others. If we are tracked into someone else’s path, we may be successful and rich, but we’ll never fully discover our gift or potential. Take the chance on the adventure. There’s no security. You may get knocked down and forced to confront many challenges. They are there for you to grow, gain wisdom, and strength.

Thinking Out Loud ~ Saying Yes to Life

Some years ago a friend gave me a copy of “Reflections on the Art of Living: A Joseph Campbell Companion.”  Campbell’s works such as The Hero With a Thousand Faces and  The Power of Myth among other have influenced thought. I will be using quotes from Reflections on the Art of Living as the basis for a series of upcoming posts.

“The warrior’s approach is to say ‘yes’ to life: ‘yea’ to it all.” p. 17

Note: We have no choice where life is concerned; each of us will get our share of the good and bad. It doesn’t always come out even. Some will get a heaping scoop of good and others a heaping scoop of bad, and most will fall between the two extremes. Life isn’t fair, but it’s the only life we have. When we give our resounding,”YES” to life we dare to live life with courage and hope. We dare to say yes to every experience we encounter. Each experience makes us into the person we find ourselves to be today. The experiences we will encounter will continue to shape us. How it shapes us is up to us and the attitude we take toward each experience.

Positive Thought for Today ~ Follow Your Heart

“Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do.”

NOTE: Joseph Campbell, the famed mythologist and cultural anthropologist, said, “Follow your bliss.” He went on to explain if one follows his/her bliss they will be happy. And, if fate favors them, they’ll end up happy and rich. Either way they’ll be happy. Never quit, Never give up following where your heart leads you.

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Follow Your Bliss

“Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls.” ~

Joseph Campbell

NOTE: There are lots of cultural pressure to chase wealth. Yet, chasing wealth isn’t a guarantee of  happiness. When we tap into discovering our life’s true meaning we link to our destiny. We may not acquire great wealth, we will acquire great satisfaction, happiness, and personal peace. It takes heaps of courage. Here’s hoping you are following your bliss.
