Let’s hit the brakes and take time to smile and be kind to one another. We’re all traveling on the same planet. Who wants to go through life being angry with others who are different?. There’s so much joy to miss. If we smile more, greet others with an encouraging word, and make kindness a habit our world will be a brighter and happier place.

Rediscovering the Joy of Life: Embracing Carefreeness Amid Grief
Episode 139: Rediscovering the Joy of Life: Embracing Carefreeness Amid Grief
In Episode 139, we explore the importance of finding joy in everyday life, even in the face of grief and challenges. Listen as we discuss how embracing the sights and sounds of life—from kids playing after school to the simple joys of a Starbucks visit—can help you rediscover the carefreeness you once had. Inspired by William Henry Davies’ poem Leisure and Edna St. Vincent Millay’s Afternoon on a Hill, we learn that it’s never too late to reconnect with the beauty around us. Let go of the excuses of being “too busy” or “too old,” and rediscover what it means to truly live and stand in awe of life.

Today’s Poem: here’s to opening and upward by e. e. cummings
here’s to opening and upward
e. e. cummings
here’s to opening and upward, to leaf and to sap
and to your(in my arms flowering so new)
self whose eyes smell of the sound of rain
and here’s to silent certainly mountains;and to
a disappearing poet of always,snow
and to morning;and to morning’s beautiful friend
twilight(and a first dream called ocean)and
let must or if be damned with whomever’s afraid
down with ought with because with every brain
which thinks it thinks,nor dares to feel(but up
with joy;and up with laughing and drunkenness)
here’s to one undiscoverable guess
of whose mad skill each world of blood is made
(whose fatal songs are moving in the moon
Today’s Thought: Choosing to be Happy
I don’t get it. Why don’t more folks choose to be happy? There are so many things around us that make me smile. I saw men and women dancing in a zumba class this morning. There were having a great time moving to the music. They made me smile. A daughter called while I was eating lunch. Not a problem, lunch can always wait. We had a great conversation. I saw two squirrels chasing each other in circles in my yard – that’s got to make you smile. It feels good to be happy, to look on the bright side. I’m not traveling down the tunnel of doom.

Today’s Poem: For a Child by Fannie Stearns Davis
For a Child
Fannie Stearns Davis
Your friends shall be the Tall Wind,
The River and the Tree;
The Sun that laughs and marches,
The Swallows and the Sea.
Your prayers shall be the murmur
Of grasses in the rain;
The song of wildwood thrushes
That makes God glad again.
And you shall run and wander,
And you shall dream and sing
Of brave things and bright things
Beyond the swallow’s wings.
And you shall envy no man,
Nor hurt your heart with sighs,
For I will keep you simple
That God may make you wise.
Today’s Quote: Be A Lamp Full of Light
Be calm, be strong, be grateful, and become a lamp full of light, that the darkness of sorrows be annihilated, and that the sun of everlasting joy arise from the dawning-place of heart and soul, shining brightly. ~ Abdu’l-Bahá
Today’s Poem: Ode to Joy by Friedrich von Schiller
Ode to Joy
Friedrich von Schiller
O friends, not these clays!
But let’s tune into more pleasant ones
And happier!
Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter from Elysium,
We enter, drunk with fire,
heavenly thy sanctuary!
your spells bind again,
What fashion Strictly divided;
All people become brothers,
Where your gentle wing rests
Whoever made the big hit
to be a friend’s friend
Whoever has won a devoted wife,
Mix in his cheers!
Yes, who even has a soul
His names on the earth round!
And whoever hasn’t been able to steal
Weeping out of this covenant
All beings drink joy
At nature’s brushes;
All good, all bad
Follow their trail of roses
She gave us kisses and vines,
A friend tried in death;
Pleasure was given to the worm,
And the cherub stands before God!
Happy how his suns fly
Through Heaven’s magnificent plan,
Run, brother, your course,
Happy like a hero to victory
Be embraced, millions
This kiss for the whole world!
Brothers! Over the starry tent
Must live a dear father
You fall down, millions?
Do you sense the Creator, world?
Look for him over the starry sky!
He must dwell above the stars
Today’s Quote: Joy Will Find Your Door
Don’t be sad, don’t be angry, if life deceives you! Submit to your grief – your time for joy will come, believe me. ~ Alexander Pushkin
