Today’s Great Healthy Tip:

Engage in activities you enjoy, like dancing or swimming, to make fitness fun.

We tend to stay with something we enjoy. I’m a good swimmer and I like swimming, but I don’t go swimming. There’s lots of reasons I stay out of the pool. Chlorine is one of them. Instead I do weights M W F and Monday through Friday I try to wear out the elliptical machine for 50 minutes each day, I’ve tried a number of different weight machines. One of my favorites is the pull up assist machine. Not too many people use it, but it works for me. Find things that work for you and go for it.

remember always walking
through halls of cloud
down aisles of sunlight
or through high hedges
of the green rain
walk in the world
highheeled with swirl of cape
hand at the swordhilt
of your pride
Keep a tall throat
Remain aghast at life

Enter each day
as upon a stage
lighted and waiting
for your step
Crave upward as flame
have keenness in the nostril
Give your eyes
to agony or rapture

Train your hands
as birds to be
brooding or nimble
Move your body
as the horses
sweeping on slender hooves
over crag and prairie
with fleeing manes
and aloofness of their limbs

Take earth for your own large room
and the floor of earth
carpeted with sunlight
and hung round with silver wind
for your dancing place

A Prescription for a Great Day

I’m up early, usually around 5 a.m. I get up in a good mood and head into the day with a great attitude. This morning I felt a bit grumpy. I didn’t like the feeling. My mind reeled for a quick fix. I sat on the edge of the bed pondering my next move when the solution struck like a lightening bolt. I asked Alexa, my digital assistant, to play the “Chicken Dance.” The music started and I popped out of bed and did the chicken dance around the bedroom. Grumpy mood gone. I was ready to start the day. Enjoy the YouTube video and pick up your mood.

Today’s Thought: Give Them Something to Talk About

A friend asked me the other day if I liked to dance. I said that I enjoy dancing. My friend then asked me what kind of dances I like to do. I said, ‘When I feel the music I go out on the floor and have fun.” My friend pressed on, ‘No, I mean specific dance types.’ I said, ‘My dancing genre is fun and joy. I don’t have time to think about the rest of it.” Then my friend asked, “Do you care what other people will think?” I quoted a Bonnie Raitt hit song, “I’ll give them something to talk about.” Get on the dance floor. Have fun, enjoy life, don’t worry about what other people think. Give them something to talk about.

Getting Our Bodies in Motion Makes Us Feel Better

Get up and get going will make you better. According to the NY Times, “The researchers also found that people who moved more frequently tended to report greater life satisfaction over all than those who reported spending most of their time in a chair.” What are you waiting for? Put on some sunscreen and go for a walk. Is it too hot, play some music and practice your dance moves.
