Today’s Thought: There are Times of Letting Go

A friend sent me a short video of a mother Robin feeding her babies. It won’t be long and the baby robins will be taking their first solo flight. They’ll get a bit more training on hunting for insects and worms then they’re on their own. There always comes a time pf letting go in life. As much as we want to hold on to people or things there comes a time to let go. When our children grow and leave home we won’t stop caring for them and being parents, but they’re on their own. They’ll be knocked down and have to find the courage to rise and go on. As long as they know they have someone who loves them, they’ll get up, shake it off and get going again.

Today’s Thought: Change it Up

Change it up today. We get caught in habits. It’s as if we walk through life on automatic pilot. If we’re not careful our thoughts go on automatic pilot and we don’t question what we’re thinking or why we’re thinking it. Try some small things. If you always stop at Starbucks for coffee, go to a different coffee shop or make your own and take it in your travel cup. If you get delivery meals or eat out, make your dinner tonight. Instead of heading to the sofa after dinner, go for a walk. Change it up. You never know what wonderful creative thoughts will come into your mind.

Today’s Thought: Be Open to What the Evidence Says

Everyone has a right to express his or her opinion. Wise people listen to the opinions of others even when they differ from their own. They evaluate their opinion on new evidence and are willing to change when the evidence warrants. A foolish person has fixed opinions and no amount of evidence can sway them from their opinion. They’ll argue and fight over a falsehood never realizing for a moment that the opinion they are defending is not true. Be open to change. Be open to accepting evidence that conflicts with what you believe is accurate.

Today’s Thought: Don’t Get Caught in the Control Trap

We often complicate our lives when we allow ourselves to get emotionally dragged into events or people we can’t control. We want to control them, but they are beyond our control. We can’t control the outcome of an election, yet, we sometimes get caught in demonizing one candidate while rooting for his/her opponent. The best we can do is contribute time to work an vote for the candidate . Another complication occurs when we try to control other people in our sphere. Good luck with that one. In the end, the best we can do is to control ourselves. If we’re caught in the control trap it’s a good idea to get out of it. People who don’t try to control events or other people are generally much happier than those who dol

Today’s Thought: Don’t Waste a Moment Being Jealous

Jealous people poison their own banquet and then eat it ~ Washington Irving

The antidote to jealousy is confidence in one’s ability and contentment with one’s self. A mentor gave me this advice: “Ray, when someone you know has success or gets notoriety you don’t have, congratulate them. Make it a heart felt congratulations.’ My mentor was right. I’ve followed his advice and sent more congratulatory emails, cards, and texts than I can count. It made the other person feel good and the feeling bounced back on me.

Today’s Thought: Do You Have the Juice?

Sometimes we want something so badly only to be disappointed. Disappointment doesn’t mean we lost or failed. It only means the one specific thing we wanted wasn’t available to us at this moment. It was some one else’s turn. A different way to think about it is to reflect on why we wanted it. What was it that excited us? If we still feel the juice for what we badly wanted, we can ask ourselves what we are willing to sacrifice to get what we wanted. If we’re not willing to make the needed sacrifice, we don’t have enough juice. It’s best to cast aside the disappointment and search for something that sets our hearts afire.

Today’s Thought: Let’s Enjoy the Ride

We’re all together in this joy ride on planet earth through the cosmos. It makes so much more sense to work together and set aside differences. It’s our only ride, we have the potential to make it a great one. It takes setting aside past grievances and the courage to believe that solutions to difficult problems are possible if we shake hands and put our minds into cooperative action.

Today’s Thought: It Really is Insane

From data generate by Google AI: According to the UN, around 100 civilians are killed every day due to armed conflicts, despite international law protections. The UN head stated in May 2023 that 43,000 people died from armed conflicts in 2022, with 94% of victims in populated areas being civilians.

What’s wrong with this picture? Ninety-four percent of the victims are civilians. I think the leaders who want armed conflicts should be on the front lines. Quickly, the number of armed conflicts would almost disappear. The leaders sit safely in their protected environments while others die for them and as a result of their policies.

Today’s Quote: Watch What You are Thinking

The thoughts we choose to think are the tools we use to paint the canvas of our lives. ~ Louise Hay

Today’s Thought: It’s Time to Release Your Inner Chil

Triple digits are expected in south Texas this week. School is over until August. Some people will complain about the heat. The kids won’t. I’ll see them playing soccer, football, and basketball. I’ll hear their screams from the pool and nearby playground. Kids adapt so much better than adults. It might be because they know they are powerless (for the most part) and instead of fighting the weather, they go along with it and enjoy it. If we’re lucky enough to get an afternoon rain, I’ll see some kids running in the rain. As adults, we think we are powerful. That’s an illusion. We get angry when we can’t change things we don’t like (check out the news if you don’t believe me). I think children have a healthier attitude. I’m going to get outside today and release my inner child (Yes, Mom, I’ll put on sunscreen and carry a bottle of water). LOL.
