Learning from Children

I see no color.

I see no race.

I see no religion.

I see a friend.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ Find the Fire

“Books written out of fire give me a great deal of pleasure. You get the sense that the world for these writers could not have continued if the book hadn’t been written. When you come across a book like that it is a privilege.”

~ Hisham Mitar

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~

When something goes wrong, do you tend to bounce back or fall apart?

When you have resilience, you harness inner strength that helps you rebound from a setback or challenge, such as a job loss, an illness, a disaster or a loved one’s death. If you lack resilience, you might dwell on problems, feel victimized, become overwhelmed or turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse. Resilience won’t make your problems go away — but resilience can give you the ability to see past them, find enjoyment in life and better handle stress. If you’re not as resilient as you’d like to be, you can develop skills to become more resilient.

Two Tips To Help You Become More Resilient

  1. Learn from experience. Think of how you’ve coped with hardships in the past. Consider the skills and strategies that helped you through difficult times. You might even write about past experiences in a journal to help you identify positive and negative behavior patterns — and guide your future behavior.
  2. Remain hopeful. You can’t change the past, but you can always look toward the future. Accepting and even anticipating change makes it easier to adapt and view new challenges with less anxiety.

🌞 Today’s Inspiration ~ Believe Good Things are Coming Your Way

“You’ve got to believe in the possibilities. You’ve got to believe that tomorrow can be better than today. And here’s the big one. Believe in yourself.”

~ Jim Rohn

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ The Word

The Word

John Kendrick Bangs

 Today, whatever may annoy,
  The word for it is Joy, just simple joy:
  The joy of life;
  The joy of children and of wife;
  The joy of bright blue skies;
  The joy of rain; the glad surprise
  Of twinkling stars that shine at night;
  The joy of winged things upon their flight;
  The joy of noonday, and the tried,
  True joyousness of eventide;
  The joy of labor and of mirth;
  The joy of air, and sea, and earth—
  The countless joys that ever flow from Him
  Whose vast beneficence doth dim
  The lustrous light of day,
  And lavish gifts divine upon our way.
  Whatever there be of Sorrow
  I’ll put off till To-morrow,
  And when To-morrow comes, why, then
  ‘Twill be To-day, and Joy again!

Be Grateful for the Good Things You Already Have

Noticing and writing down things we’re grateful for creates a positive neurological loop that encourages us to keep it up.

Here are my 5 positive things for today. What are yours?

  1. I woke up feeling healthy.
  2. I text with my daughters (They’re all healthy and doing well).
  3. I had a great workout at the gym (and I feel safe while working out – everyone is trying hard to make it a safe environment).
  4. My neighbor told me his wife and he are expecting a baby girl (they are great people and will be great parents).
  5. Last night’s hail storm was loud but didn’t do any damage.

Honestly, I found myself smiling the entire time I wrote my grateful list. Try it.

Today’s Smile 😃

Son: “Dad, why is my sister’s name Paris?”

Dad: “Because we conceived her in Paris.”

Son: “Thanks, dad.”

Dad: “No problem, Quarantine.”

Dogs Are Great Teachers

One of my daughters has two Britney’s. The dogs are the best friends. She sent me this photo of her dogs. I looked at the photo and wished everyone got along as well as her dogs do.
