Forbearance
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hast thou named all the birds without a gun;
Loved the wood-rose, and left it on its stalk;
At rich men’s tables eaten bread and pulse:
Unarmed, faced danger with a heart of trust;
And loved so well a high behavior
In man or maid, that thou from speech refrained
Nobility more nobly to repay
O be my friend, and teach me to be thine!
Some days the clouds are so thick I wonder if there is a sun. Hold on, don’t quit. Even when we can’t see it, the sun is shining. Life will take a turn for the better. Hold on. Don’t quit.
When the Sun Comes After the Rain
Robert Louis Stevenson
WHEN the sun comes after rain
And the bird is in the blue,
The girls go down the lane
Two by two.
When the sun comes after shadow
And the singing of the showers,
The girls go up the meadow,
Fair as flowers.
When the eve comes dusky red
And the moon succeeds the sun,
The girls go home to bed
One by one.
And when life draws to its even
And the day of man is past,
They shall all go home to heaven,
Home at last.
