Wild seas of tossing, writhing waves,
A wreck half-sinking in the tortuous gloom;
One man clings desperately, while Boreas raves,
And helps to blot the rays of moon and star,
Then comes a sudden flash of light, which gleams on shores afar.
When loving others, it’s impossible to be blue. Love chases the blues away. Love, Love, and Love some more.
New Year’s Eve. When my wife was alive we would visit Starbucks each New Year’s Eve, buy coffees, grab a table and brainstorm all the good things that happened to us during the year. She put each of the good things in a gratitude journal. By the time we finished brainstorming, our moods were lifted, we knew the year, even with all its twists and turns, was good to us. Since her passing, I continue to journal all the good things that happened to me during the year. I can’t sit inside Starbucks this year, but that won’t stop me. I’ve got a pen and paper and it’s itching to write. Try it, and you’ll see there were many good things in your life this year. God bless you and I hope 2021 brings you many more good times.
“Keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you.”
~ Walt Whitman
As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day. If you want to lose weight, maintain weight loss or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more. Want to aim even higher? You can achieve more health benefits if you ramp up your exercise to 300 minutes or more a week.
Reducing sitting time is important, too. The more hours you sit each day, the higher your risk of metabolic problems. Sitting too much can negatively impact your health and longevity, even if you get the recommended amount of daily physical activity.
Joe: “I took my girlfriend to see my family.”
Pete: “How did it work out? Did your family like her?”
Joe: “It went well until my wife met her.”
Patiently wait and life surprises you in ways you may not have imagined. Don’t quit. Don’t give up.
Treat yourself with kindness and respect, and avoid self-criticism. Make time for your hobbies and favorite projects, or broaden your horizons. Do a daily crossword puzzle, plant a garden, take dance lessons, learn to play an instrument or become fluent in another language.
