🤗 A Better Life ~ Choose to Live

I recently spoke with a friend who was filled with profound sadness (Her husband died three months ago). She hasn’t been able to move beyond her sadness. She asked me how I was able to move beyond the death of my wife. I told her that for me it came down to staying sad or choosing to live. I chose to live.  I hope she chooses to live. Choose to live. Choose to enjoy life. Choose to be grateful for the life you have.

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Echo

Echo

Christina Rosetti

Come to me in the silence of the night;
Come in the sparkling silence of a dream;
Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright
As sunlight on a stream;
Come back in tears,
O memory, hope, love of finished years.
O dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet,
Whose wakening should have been in Paradise,
Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet;
Where thirsting longing eyes
Watch the slow door
That opening, letting in, lets out no more.

Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live
My very life again though cold in death:
Come back to me in dreams, that I may give
Pulse for pulse, breath for breath:
Speak low, lean low,
As long ago, my love, how long ago.

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Are Egg Whites a Complete Protein?

Egg White are a Low Calorie and Complete Protein Choice

Egg whites are high in protein but low in calories. In fact, they pack around 67% of all the protein found in eggs. They provide what is considered a complete protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids in the amounts your body needs to function at its best. Due to their high protein content, eating egg whites can provide health benefits. Protein can help curb your appetite, so eating egg whites could make you feel fuller for longer. Getting enough protein is also important for maintaining and building muscle — especially if you’re trying to manage your weight. Given that whole eggs provide only slightly more protein for quite a few extra calories, egg whites can be an appealing choice for people who are trying to lose weight.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ Have You Thought About Creating a Backstory?

Backstory. It’s the best tool you have to develop relatable, realistic, three-dimensional characters for your novel. Sketching out a backstory is not the sexiest part of writing a novel. Investigating motivations, creating genealogies, understanding the socio-political landscape of the world you’re creating— that’s pretty heavy stuff, especially since most of it won’t even make it into your novel.

A backstory is the history of the character. It addresses the following:

    • Who the character is
    • Why the character is the way he or she is

💡 Something to Think About

There are times when we bite off more than we can chew. We don’t have many choices when that happens. We can give up, cry for help, or dig down deep and figure it out. In my experience, we grow more by digging down deep and figuring it out. It’s not easy, there will be stumbles, but they’ll give way to dogged persistence and a non-quit attitude.

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Who Ever Loved, That Loved Not at First Sight

Who Ever Loved, That Loved Not at First Sight

Christopher Marlow

It lies not in our power to love or hate,
For will in us is overruled by fate.
When two are stripped, long ere the course begin,
We wish that one should love, the other win;
And one especially do we affect
Of two gold ingots, like in each respect:
The reason no man knows, let it suffice,
What we behold is censured by our eyes.
Where both deliberate, the love is slight:
Who ever loved, that loved not at first sight?

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ Do You Know the Difference Between Plot and Theme?

“Every good story has a plot and every good plot needs a theme.The story is a series of events. The plot is a structure that the storyteller uses to show how the events are connected. The theme is the central message behind the story. To tell the best story possible, you need both a plot and a theme. But here’s the thing: Themes cannot be spelled out. Instead, you’ll need to leave a trail of breadcrumbs to help the reader figure out the story’s theme.”

💡 Something to Think About

If we sit and think about our problems and challenges they’ll never go away. We have to stand up and face them. Even if we fail to resolve them, we try again and again. We’ll eventually wear them out. Refuse to quit. Refuse to give in to the problems and challenges. You’re tougher than your problems or challenges.
