Telling others how to live their life is a sure way of losing a friend or causing separation with those close to us. Each person’s journey through life is unique. We learn by trial and error. We’d like to pass on the wisdom we’ve gleaned through our journey, but most don’t want to hear it. Most want to experience it and learn for themselves.

Today’s Poem ~ Life
So dark as sages say;
Oft a little morning rain
Foretells a pleasant day.
Sometimes there are clouds of gloom,
But these are transient all;
If the shower will make the roses bloom,
O why lament its fall ?
Rapidly, merrily,
Life’s sunny hours flit by,
Gratefully, cheerily,
Enjoy them as they fly !
What though Death at times steps in
And calls our Best away ?
What though sorrow seems to win,
O’er hope, a heavy sway ?
Yet hope again elastic springs,
Unconquered, though she fell;
Still buoyant are her golden wings,
Still strong to bear us well.
Manfully, fearlessly,
The day of trial bear,
For gloriously, victoriously,
Can courage quell despair !
Today’s Inspiration ~ What’s Your Next Challenge?
“Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Today’s Smile
Joe “I can’t believe how my girlfriend complains. I brought the diaper bag. I brought the car seat. I even brought some extra toys for our baby.”
Pete: “Why was she complaining?”
Joe: “Can I help it if I forgot the baby.”
Today’s Power Thought ~ Embrace the Challenges
Inside each challenge we face there is a gem. The gem may be an opportunity. The gem may be something we need to learn. Look for the gem in the challenges you face and you’ll discover the secrets the challenges planned for you.
Today’s Health Tip ~ Good Food & Good Mood Go Together
Foods You Eat Can Bolster Your Mood
The best meal to enhance your mood is one that combines complex carbohydrates with lean proteins and colorful produce. For example, complex carbohydrates from whole foods (like sweet potatoes, rolled oats, beans and quinoa) can increase availability of the feel-good chemical serotonin in your brain. Protein consumption (from foods like fish, beef, chicken, turkey, tofu, beans, eggs and unsweetened yogurt) has been linked tohigher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine, which are brain chemicals that play a role in your mood, motivation and concentration.
Today’s Good Word ~ Who, What, Where, When, and Why?
Who, what, where, when, and why. They are often referred to as the 5 W’s. These words hold the key to gaining information or solving problems. They are the starting place to our investigation into the unknown. If we use the words wisely, we frame questions that gather the information we desire and lead to further discoveries. The words can also be misused, for example, “Why did you do that?” In this case our statement doesn’t seek information as much as it accuses another. Instead, one could ask, “Why did this happen?” There is a big difference. The former leads to defensiveness, the latter leads to a cooperative search for truth.
Something to Think About
Traveling broadens our view. When we travel we find other people, from different cultures and belief systems are not too different from us. The more we travel, the more we discover how deeply we are connected. When we know another person, it is more difficult to dislike or hate the other person. This is true in our local communities as well as on a global scale. If we can withhold judgments and choose to learn, we have an opportunity to connect, learn, and create a friendship.
Today’s Good Word ~ Mental Attitude
The reality of our world filters itself through our mental attitude of what is real or not real. People will fight until they no longer have strength for a world view that is wrong by every standard but the one created by their mental attitude. What kind of world do you want to see? Create the world with your mental attitude and soon evidence will accumulate faster than snowflakes during a winter blizzard. The kind of world we create with our mental attitude affects our health, emotions, and relationships. Before you create the world you desire with your mental attitude think of your health, emotions and relationships. In what kind of world view will your health, emotions and relationships flourish.
Today’s Health Tip ~ Foods that may Lead to a Stroke
The Good News is that Strokes can be Prevented
One key element to this is your diet. Here are some food items that have been negatively associated with an increase in stroke risk.
Processed Foods That Contain Trans Fat – Processed foods or junk foods, such as crackers, chips, store-bought goods and fried foods, typically contain a lot of trans fat, a very dangerous type of fat because it increases inflammation in the body. . . . It is t is linked to increased stroke risk and also many other serious, life-threatening diseases as well.
Smoked And Processed Meats – There are certain preservatives found in smoked and processed meats — namely sodium nitrite and nitrate — that damage your blood vessels and thus increase your stroke risk. Not only that, but nitrates convert into nitrosamines which have been linked to certain cancers as well. Examples of smoked and processed meats include hot dogs, bacon and salami. Ideally, you would limit smoked and processed meats completely from your diet. However, if this cannot be done, at least ensure that you limit their quantities, as well as ensure that your meat is grass-fed, organic, free of nitrates and is labelled as 100 percent beef.
Table Salt – By salt, this means processed salt found in packaged foods and table salt. Natural, unrefined salt, such as Himalayan salt, is not associated with increased stroke risk and can be used to flavour food. In fact, natural salt can even help to regulate your blood pressure.
