Something to Think About

Imagine a bowl of bread dough gently rising. If no attention is paid to the rising dough, it will spill over, and the bread will not turn out as well as one hoped. It is the same way with us when we hold things inside too long. Our emotions build up and eventually spill over and it usually does not turn out well. Speak to a trusted friend and talk about things you’ve been holding inside. You’ll feel better.

Today’s Smile

Joe: “I told a joke on my Zoom meeting today.”

Pete: “How did it go over?”

Joe: “It wasn’t even remotely funny.”

What If . . .

What if I chose to take today one moment at a time what will I do about planning ahead? I think I’ll keep one eye on the present moment and the other eye looking ahead for a rainbow. That way we can keep a balance between living too much into tomorrow or too much into the moment. It’s a delicate balance. It’s more like a dance where each partner anticipates the moves of the other. There’s no looking back, take the memories that help or heal, discard the rest and dance on.

Today’s Health Tip ~

Increase Your Aerobic Capacity

A lot of what defines your fitness is your aerobic capacity. When your body uses oxygen to create energy it’s considered aerobic. The truth is that you’re constantly breathing and using oxygen to power your body. But your fitness level depends on how effectively you can use oxygen at any given point in time during exertion.

If you do a slightly aerobic activity, like walking, you might not feel much of an increase in your breathing rate. If you start to jog, you might breathe faster and faster. As you increase your speed to a full-out sprint you breathe even faster. At a certain point, you can’t breathe any faster and your body starts to slow down.

While the intensity of an interval workout makes it so effective, it also makes it much more difficult. Continuous aerobic workouts might be easier for you to do and, even though it may take longer to get the same results, they still improve your aerobic fitness.

For a continuous aerobic workout, pick an exercise like running, swimming, biking or rowing to do for an extended period of time, for example, 30 to 60 minutes. Do the exercise without any rest but at a low intensity — below 80 percent of your maximum heart rate. To find your maximum heart rate, simply subtract your age from 220. The key to this style of exercise is to pace yourself so that you’re never completely exhausted. With a little bit of practice, you’ll be able to find a pace that you can sustain for a while that isn’t too easy or hard.

Something to Think About

When we’re faced with a problem it is a natural to figure out what caused the problem and fix it. When it’s a relational problem, looking for the cause often creates greater discord. Both parties point a fault finding finger at the other. There is an alternative way of approaching the problem issue. What if the problem is named, that is described without attributing blame? When the problem becomes the focus and not people, everyone can work together for a solution. It takes heaps of courage to refrain from finger pointing and assessing blame. The results are worth the effort.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Who Are You?

“Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be?”

~ Charles Bukowski

A Better Life ~

It’s often the small, trivial things that disturb us. We may go to dinner and find the wait time for a table is forty-five minutes. We let it upset us and leave. A better way may be to enjoy each other’s company over a drink and appetizer while waiting. It’s similar with other trivial things. When we learn to roll with them, life takes a 180 degree turn for the better. Today go on a trivial fast. You’ll feel a lot better.

Today’s Poem ~ Home and Love

Home And Love
Robert William Service
Just Home and Love! the words are small
Four little letters unto each;
And yet you will not find in all
The wide and gracious range of speech
Two more so tenderly complete:
When angels talk in Heaven above,
I’m sure they have no words more sweet
Than Home and Love.

Just Home and Love! it’s hard to guess
Which of the two were best to gain;
Home without Love is bitterness;
Love without Home is often pain.
No! each alone will seldom do;
Somehow they travel hand and glove:
If you win one you must have two,
Both Home and Love.

And if you’ve both, well then I’m sure
You ought to sing the whole day long;
It doesn’t matter if you’re poor
With these to make divine your song.
And so I praisefully repeat,
When angels talk in Heaven above,
There are no words more simply sweet
Than Home and Love.

A Better Life ~ It’s a Great Day

What kind of day are you having? I’m having a great day. I hope you’re riding on same road as I am.. It’s not a perfect road. There are potholes every now and them. I’m not going to let them steal my great day from me. If nature decides to rain on me, I think I’ll dance in it. A bit of rain can’t take away the joy I am getting from being alive and enjoying this day. Ride on the great day with me.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Jump into the Day

You’ve got today – don’t waste it. You’ve got another chance. There’s hope in the air. There are opportunities abounding and they’re waiting for you. Jump into the day with gusto. Give it your best.
