Today’s Inspiration ~ Rules for Happiness

Rules for Happiness: something to do, someone to love, something to hope for.

~ Immanuel Kant

What If I Recognized Lonely People?

What if I were aware of those who pass my way who are lonely? What would I do? Would I keep walking and ignore them? Or, would I offer a friendly greeting? According to researchers 58% of Americans feel that no one really knows them. And, 30% of older adults consider themselves lonely. Loneliness is not listed as a disease, yet, loneliness is linked to an early death, depression, poor sleep among others. What if we stepped out of our comfort zone and made a lonely person feel not so alone? A simple greeting can turn a person’s life around.

Power Thought ~ Don’t Let the Hurt Win

Welcome to the club if you’ve ever been hurt, betrayed, shunned, or disrespected. I think everyone has or will be during their life. The only way pain wins is if we let it fester and continue ruminate on it. Healing comes when we can let the pain go, forgive, and move on. Don’t let the hurt keep you down. You’re stronger and tougher than anything that’s been dished onto your plate.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Want to Spice Up Your Life?

Cayenne PepperMay Be Just What the Doctor Ordered

Cayenne peppers are fantastic sources of antioxidants and other plant compounds that protect our cells and promote health,” says registered dietitian Alexis Supan, RD. Antioxidants, along with related compounds like flavonoids and carotenoids, are compounds naturally found in plants. These compounds protect our cells against damage from harmful substances in the environment. They fight the processes that age our cells to help keep our cells young,.Cayenne peppers can protect heart health in several ways. There’s evidence that capsaicin can protect against inflammation in your body. Inflammation plays a role in many different diseases, including heart disease. Cayenne peppers can keep blood vessels healthy and may help lower blood pressure. Researchers found that people who regularly ate chili peppers were 13% less likely to die than people who avoided spicy fare. The reason? Spice lovers had a lower risk of heart-related diseases like heart attacks and strokes. Lots of people associate spicy foods with heartburn or an upset stomach. There’s also evidence that spicy foods like cayenne peppers can boost the good bacteria in your gut. The microbiome is a community of bacteria in your gut that are important for a healthy immune system. Capsaicin may help promote a healthy microbiome.

Today’s Poem ~ I Am The People, The Mob

I Am The People, The Mob
Carl Sandburg
I AM the people–the mob–the crowd–the mass.
Do you know that all the great work of the world is
done through me?
I am the workingman, the inventor, the maker of the
world’s food and clothes.
I am the audience that witnesses history. The Napoleons
come from me and the Lincolns. They die. And
then I send forth more Napoleons and Lincolns.
I am the seed ground. I am a prairie that will stand
for much plowing. Terrible storms pass over me.
I forget. The best of me is sucked out and wasted.
I forget. Everything but Death comes to me and
makes me work and give up what I have. And I
forget.
Sometimes I growl, shake myself and spatter a few red
drops for history to remember. Then–I forget.
When I, the People, learn to remember, when I, the
People, use the lessons of yesterday and no longer
forget who robbed me last year, who played me for
a fool–then there will be no speaker in all the world
say the name: “The People,” with any fleck of a
sneer in his voice or any far-off smile of derision.
The mob–the crowd–the mass–will arrive then.

Today’s Smile

Joe: “I have good luck getting dates online.”

Pete: “What is your secret?”

Joe: “I’m also have good luck in getting walnuts, raisons, figs and almonds.”

Today’s Power Thought ~ Where are You Living?

If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.”

A Better Life ~ Enjoy the Day

It’s pouring rain at the moment in south Texas as I write this post (It’s a Saturday). It’s a cold, raw rain. I love it. We need rain. I got wet getting gasoline for my car and walking into the market. I didn’t run into the market, I took my time enjoying the rain hitting my face and head. I’ll brew myself hot tea, settle in to watch football. It’s as good as it gets. I may even pop a big batch of popcorn.
