Kindness Works ~ Kindness Makes a Difference

Being Kind to One Another

While it may seem easier to be kind to the people we know, we also carry the ability to show kindness to someone new. We never know what others are dealing with and our generosity, support, or small act of kindness may go a long way.

Kindness doesn’t always have to include dramatic gestures of care. Simply being polite, using a warm tone, giving a smile, or showing patience or gratitude to a stranger can be enough.

Some ideas:

  • Make it easy for someone to get on the highway.
  • Toss the cashier a smile and tell him/her thank you.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Where is the Seed of Opportunity?

When we are no longer able to change a situation – we are challenged to change ourselves.

~ Viktor E. Frankl

Today’s Positive Thought ~ I Can Do This!

It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect its successful outcome (William James).”

One mantra I’ve taught myself to repeat when faced with a challenge is, “I can do this.” I consistently repeat it. Before I know it, I did it.

Today’s Poem ~ Life is a Journey

Life is a Journey

Rabbi Alvin I. Fine

Birth is a beginning
and death a destination
And life is a journey:
From childhood to maturity
and youth to age;
From innocence to awareness
and ignorance to knowing;
From foolishness to desecration
and then perhaps to wisdom.
From weakness to strength or
from strength to weakness
and often back again;
From health to sickness
and we pray to health again.
From offense to forgiveness
from loneliness to love
from joy to gratitude
from pain to compassion
from grief to understanding
from fear to faith.
From defeat to defeat to defeat
until looking backwards or ahead
We see that victory lies not
at some high point along the way
but in having made the journey
step by step
a sacred pilgrimage.
Birth is a beginning
and death a destination
And life is a journey;
A sacred journey to life everlasting

Today’s Health Tip ~ 6 Steps to Stop a Bloody Nose

How To Stop a Bloody Nose

  1. Sit up straight – Either sit down or stand with your head bent forward slightly.” And no, you shouldn’t tip your head back.
  2. Use a nasal spray – If you happen to have an over-the-counter nasal decongestant(oxymetazoline or phenylephrine), you can spray it into your nose on the side that’s bleeding.
  3. Apply pressure – You’ll need an extra tissue for this one, just in case. As the blood vessels are located near your nostrils, apply firm pressure to the sides of your nose (not the bridge) — as though you were pinching your nose shut. You should be gently pinching the soft sides of your nose, just above your nostrils.
  4. Wait for the bleeding to stop – Keep the pressure for at least 10 to 15 minutes before checking to see if the bleeding has stopped. Patience is key here — set a timer and sit tight. And don’t relieve pressure before the time is up to check, as you may restart the bleeding.
  5. Try ice – If the bleeding hasn’t stopped after 15 minutes, apply an ice pack or cold compress to the bridge of your nose, which can constrict the blood vessels and help bring the blood flow to a stop.
  6. Keep calm – If you’re still bleeding at the 20-30-minute mark, it’s time to talk to a medical professional.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Don’t Give in to Discouragement

Don’t let life discourage you; everyone who got where he is had to begin where he was (Richard L. Evans).

We all encounter periods of discouragement. The big choice we have to make is to decide to whether we give control to discouragement or to tear it away from discouragement and push on believing tomorrow will be better than today. Choose to seize control from discouragement.

Today’s Photo ~ Where are you Going?

Where are you going? To get where we’re going we need to have a destination in mind. It’s the same way in all aspects of our life: personal, professional, spiritually, and relationally.  If we want a great relationship, for example,  it won’t happen until we know clearly where we want to go with it. Once we know we have to work to make it happen.

Today’s Poem ~ My Star

My Star

Robert Browning

All that I know
Of a certain star
Is, it can throw
(Like the angled spar)
Now a dart of red,
Now a dart of blue;
Till my friends have said
They would fain see, too,
My star that dartless the red and the blue!
Then it stops like a bird; like a flower hangs furled:
They must solace themselves with the Saturn above it.
What matter to me if their star is a world?
Mine has opened its soul to me, therefore I love it
