Thinking Out Loud ~ It Takes Time Understand Others

Listening Reveals New Discoveries

Saint-Exupéry in writes in The Little Prince, “and that is How I Met the little prince. It took me a long time to understand from where he came. The little prince, who asked me a lot of questions never seemed to understand mine. The words spoken by chance, little by little, are the ones revealing me everything.

NOTE: When we meet someone new it takes time for us to get to know them. We can only get to know the new person we meet if we are more interested in him or her than we are in ourselves. The more we move out of ourselves toward the other the more we learn about the other allowing us to discover the treasures this new person holds. When we listen to another, the other will reveal himself or herself to us as trust builds.

Healthy Lifestyle Tip ~ Do You Exercise after Eating?

Maybe You Should Wait

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to this question. To a certain extent, meal and exercise timing is a personal preference. It also depends on key factors, including:

  • What you eat: Certain foods –– including those high in fat, protein, and fiber –– take longer to digest. So what you eat can help determine how long you should wait to start exercising.
  • How much you eat: Meal size will also affect your wait time before a workout. The more you eat, the longer it takes to digest. So you might have to wait longer to start your training if you eat a full meal instead of a snack.
  • Exercise type: When you exercise, more blood flows to your working muscles to support movement. This shift reduces blood flow to your gut, which may disrupt the digestive process. And research indicates that high-intensity exercise may be more likely to cause gastrointestinal problems such as runner’s stomach.
  • Individual physiology: Everyone’s digestive system is different. Age, gender, pre-existing health conditions, and other factors can influence how quickly your body digests food and how sensitive it is to activity during the digestive process.

One study found that women digest food more slowly than men. And, as you age, your digestion slows, which might mean you need to wait longer. Additionally, if you have a gastrointestinal disorder, like irritable bowel syndrome, you may digest foods faster or slower than others. There are so many variables because digestion is a complex process. It involves breaking down macronutrients — carbs, fats, and proteins — into smaller parts. Your body absorbs those small parts and uses them for energy, growth, and cell repair.

Feel Good Tip ~ High Hopes

The kids in the neighborhood gather on the street corners waiting for their school bus Monday through Fridays. They’re chatting with each other, some are carrying instruments, all have backpacks. Scenes like this make me feel good. I see a new generation trying to figure it out. They will. I have hope that among them are peacemakers, doctors, scientists, and most all people who will make a positive difference.

Joke of the Day

Joe: “My date asked what I did and said I was eliminating all cancers.”

Pete: “I bet she was impressed.”

Joe: “She was until I said, ‘Next I’m eliminating  all Libras.”

Poem of the Day ~ A Distant Song

A Distant Song

John Gould Fletcher

Whether awake or sleeping,
   I cannot rest for long:
By my casement comes creeping
  A distant song.

A song like the chiming of silver
  Bells which the breezes play,
Seeming to float for ever
  Towards an unseen day:

A song that is weary with sorrow,
  Yet knows not any defeat:
Through the past, through to-day, through to-morrow,
It echoes on life’s long street.

Could I but make words of its power,
Bring it from the future here,
Men’s souls would be waking, that hour,
  To the victory against fear.

But the vague sweet stanza befools me
With its calm joy, time after time,
And no failure here ever schools me
To cease from an idle rhyme.

That music afar, unspoken,
’Tis I have done it wrong:
I caught, and I have broken,
    A distant song.

Thinking Out Loud ~ It’s Time to Sing and Dance

Saint-Exupéry in writes in The Little Prince, “So I had, in my lifetime, a lot of contacts with a lot of serious people. I’ve lived a lot at the house of grown-ups. I saw them very closely. It has not improved my opinion very much.

NOTE: Oh, the serious people that surround us. They walk around as if the world depended entirely on them. They glue themselves to the news. They fret over things they have no control over. And, they try to recruit others to their fear ladened parade. As for me, I’ll let their parade pass on by. I’d rather sing and dance and enjoy the adventure of living. I’ll keep my eyes open for the rainbow down the road and keep on believing that it will be a good day.

Healthy Lifestyle Tip ~ Adding Fortified Nutritional Yeast to your Diet is a Good Move

The Benefits of Fortified Nutritional Yeast

Nutritional yeast is the cheesy-tasting cousin to brewer’s and baker’s yeast that has gained popularity in recent years alongside the rising interest in plant-based diets. Nutritional yeast is rich in nutrients often lacking from vegetarian and vegan diets. It’s also free of gluten, soy, and sugar, making it a great dietary addition for people with food sensitivities. However, research shows that its nutritional content can benefit any diet. Nutritional yeast is a great source of vitamins and minerals. It also contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein like those found in animal products.  Fortified nutritional yeast also contains high levels of vitamin B12 and folic acid (B9), both of which help your body make and maintain your DNA and red blood cells. Not all varieties sold are fortified, so be sure to check each product’s label for its nutritional content.
