Today’s Thought: It’s No Big Deal

It’s easy to let the small, inconsequential things get under our skin. If we’re not careful, these small things fester. Before too long, the small things become a big thing blown well out of proportion. It’s not the other person who is making us miserable, it”s ourselves making ourselves miserable. That’s crazy when you think about it. Why would any sane person want to make themselves miserable? Not every issue or slight needs to be confronted. Not every issue is worth attention or envy. When we let the inconsequential go, we feel better, we may save a relationship, and we don’t add to the anger that currently abounds all around us.

Today’s Poem: For a Child by Fannie Stearns Davis

For a Child

Fannie Stearns Davis

Your friends shall be the Tall Wind,
The River and the Tree;
The Sun that laughs and marches,
The Swallows and the Sea.

Your prayers shall be the murmur
Of grasses in the rain;
The song of wildwood thrushes
That makes God glad again.

And you shall run and wander,
And you shall dream and sing
Of brave things and bright things
Beyond the swallow’s wings.

And you shall envy no man,
Nor hurt your heart with sighs,
For I will keep you simple
That God may make you wise.

Health Facts: Concerned About Hair Loss?

Here are two lesser-known but important facts about preventing hair loss:

1. Balanced Nutrition and Specific Nutrients:

While it’s common knowledge that a healthy diet is crucial for overall well-being, specific nutrients play a significant role in preventing hair loss. A diet rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals can significantly impact hair health. For instance:

  • Iron: Iron deficiency can lead to hair loss. Ensuring adequate intake of iron through foods like spinach, lentils, and lean meats can help maintain healthy hair.
  • Vitamin D: A deficiency in Vitamin D is linked to hair loss. Sun exposure and foods like fatty fish, fortified dairy products, and egg yolks can boost Vitamin D levels.
  • Biotin (Vitamin B7): Known for its role in hair health, biotin can be found in foods like eggs, nuts, and whole grains.

2. Scalp Care and Hygiene:

Proper scalp care is essential in preventing hair loss but often overlooked. Maintaining a clean and healthy scalp can promote hair growth and reduce shedding. Consider these tips:

  • Regular Washing: Washing your scalp regularly with a gentle shampoo helps remove dirt, oil, and product buildup that can clog hair follicles.
  • Exfoliation: Just like your skin, your scalp can benefit from exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and improve blood circulation. Use a scalp scrub or gentle brush to exfoliate.
  • Avoid Harsh Treatments: Limit the use of harsh chemical treatments, heat styling, and tight hairstyles that can damage hair and lead to hair loss. Opt for natural hair care products and gentler styling methods.

From Cocoon to Butterfly: Breaking Free from Grief

Listen to my Podcast, Journey from Grief to Healing, Episode 117 on your favorite podcasting app or click here for Episode 117

In Episode 117 of “Journey from Grief to Healing,” we explore the profound interplay between joy and sorrow as essential parts of the human experience. Reflecting on personal memories and poetic wisdom, this episode delves into the idea that life’s unpredictability shields us from the burden of foreseeing the pain of losing loved ones, allowing us to cherish moments of joy untainted by fear.

The episode features insights from the works of poets Kahlil Gibran and Louisa May Alcott, highlighting how grief and joy are intertwined. It emphasizes that attempting to shield ourselves from sorrow also deprives us of joy, as illustrated by the transformation of a butterfly breaking free from its cocoon.

Listeners are encouraged to embrace life fully, despite the pain of loss. Drawing on the thoughts of Paulo Coelho, we discuss how the fear of suffering often outweighs the suffering itself. The episode concludes with a call to celebrate the lives and memories of our loved ones, carrying their love and influence forward as we continue to live, not merely exist.

Tune in to find solace and strength, and to learn how to honor your grief while embracing the joy that life has to offer.

Today’s Thought: Try Slow Jamming Your Day

I overslept this morning. I’m normally up by 5 a.m. I slept in. I didn’t wake up until 5:30 a.m. LOL My morning routine was teetering on falling apart. Somewhere between doing the plank and pushups I decided to let my routine fall apart. What’s the worse that could happen? Would I put an Arab – Israeli truce in peril? Would getting out of my routine cause the Olympics to be cancelled. Would getting out of my routine cause a traffic jam on I-35 heading into San Antonio? The irrational part of my brain said yes to all those question and offered up several catastrophes that might occur. I decided to slow jam my day. The hell with it. Let the catastrophes happen, A crazy thing happened. No, there still is no solution to the Arab – Israeli conflict. Traffic jams occur naturally on I-35. And, it looks like all systems are go for the Olympics to start on schedule. I discovered by slow jamming my day I actually accomplished more than I normally would have accomplished. Go figure. Try slow jamming your day. I felt a lot better not being rushed and not caring if I got everything done.
