Today’s Quote: Question Everything

Don’t listen to the person who has the answers; listen to the person who has the questions. ~ Albert Einstein

Today’s Poem: The Vision of Peace by Nathan Haskell Dole

The Vision of Peace

Nathan Haskell Dole

O, beautiful Vision of Peace,
    Beam bright in the eyes of Man!
The host of the meek shall increase,
    The Prophets are leading the van.
Have courage: we see the Morn!
    Never fear, tho’ the Now be dark!
Out of Night the Day is born;
    The Fire shall live from the spark.
It may take a thousand years
    Ere the Era of Peace hold sway,
Look back and the Progress cheers
    And a thousand years are a day!
The World grows — yet not by chance;
    It follows some marvelous plan;
Tho’ slow to our wish the advance,
    God rules the training of Man.

Health Facts: Spice Up Your Life With Tumeric

Turmeric, particularly its active compound curcumin, offers several health benefits:

  1. Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Curcumin has potent anti-inflammatory effects, which can help reduce chronic inflammation in the body. This is beneficial for conditions like arthritis and heart disease.
  2. Antioxidant Effects: Turmeric is rich in antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and potentially lowering the risk of chronic diseases.
  3. Improved Brain Function: Curcumin may increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein linked to improved brain function and reduced risk of neurodegenerative diseases.
  4. Heart Health: Turmeric may improve the function of the endothelium (the lining of blood vessels), which can help regulate blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Incorporating turmeric into your diet can be a flavorful way to harness these health benefits!

Today’s Thought: Be Wise, Be Informed

A late night talk show host sent a crew to the street to interview people. The crew asked people how they felt about certain politically charged terms. The people they interviewed strongly voiced their opposition to each term. When asked to define the term to which they disagreed, they admitted they didn’t know what it meant. The sketch was meant to be funny but it also raised an important point: How much effort to do we put in to understand people and issues we claim not to like? How much do we rely on someone else to tell us their truth instead of discovering it for ourselves? Be informed. Be wise. Don’t be led by a charlatan.

Health Facts: All Natural Peanut Butter Is a Healthy Choice

All-natural peanut butter, typically made from just peanuts and possibly a small amount of salt, provides several health benefits due to its simple, wholesome ingredients. Here are some key benefits:

  1. Rich in Healthy Fats: Natural peanut butter contains heart-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which can help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and support overall cardiovascular health.
  2. Good Source of Protein: Peanut butter is high in plant-based protein, making it a great option for vegetarians and anyone looking to increase their protein intake. This helps with muscle repair and overall body maintenance.
  3. Nutrient-Dense: Peanut butter is packed with essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, and B vitamins, which contribute to various bodily functions, including immune support and energy production.
  4. High in Fiber: The fiber content in peanut butter aids in digestion and can help promote satiety, which may support weight management by reducing the temptation to overeat.
  5. Contains Antioxidants: Natural peanut butter contains antioxidants, including resveratrol, which have anti-inflammatory properties and may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
  6. Low in Added Sugars and Preservatives: Because all-natural peanut butter doesn’t contain added sugars or artificial ingredients, it’s a healthier choice for managing blood sugar levels compared to some conventional peanut butters.
  7. Energy Boost: The combination of healthy fats, protein, and fiber makes it a great snack for sustained energy throughout the day, especially for those with active lifestyles.

Including all-natural peanut butter in moderation can be a nutritious part of a balanced diet!
