Today’s Poem: Here’s Hopin’ by Francis Lebby Stanton

Here’s Hopin’

Francis Lebby Stanton

Year ain’t been the very best;—
 Purty hard by trouble pressed;
 But the rough way leads to rest,—
   Here’s hopin’!

 Maybe craps way short; the rills
 Couldn’t turn the silent mills;
 But the light’s behind the hills,—
   Here’s hopin’!

 Where we planted roses sweet
 Thorns come up an’ pricked the feet;
 But this old world’s hard to beat,—
   Here’s hopin’!

 P’r’aps the buildin’ that we planned
 ‘Gainst the cyclone couldn’t stand;
 But, thank God we’ve got the land,—
   Here’s hopin’!

 Maybe flowers we hoped to save
 Have been scattered on a grave;
 But the heart’s still beatin’ brave,—
   Here’s hopin’!

 That we’ll see the mornin’ light—
 That the very darkest night
 Can’t hide heaven from our sight,—
   Here’s hopin’!

Today’s Quote: Life is Lived Forward

Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, Faith looks up ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today’s Poem: A Poem of Faith by Paul Laurence Dunbar

A Poem of Faith

Paul Laurence Dunbar

I think that though the clouds be dark,
  That though the waves dash o’er the bark,
  Yet after while the light will come,
  And in calm waters safe at home
        The bark will anchor.
  Weep not, my sad-eyed, gray-robed maid,
  Because your fairest blossoms fade,
  That sorrow still o’erruns your cup,
  And even though you root them up,
        The weeds grow ranker.

  For after while your tears shall cease,
  And sorrow shall give way to peace;
  The flowers shall bloom, the weeds shall die,
  And in that faith seen, by and by
        Thy woes shall perish.
  Smile at old Fortune’s adverse tide,
  Smile when the scoffers sneer and chide.
  Oh, not for you the gems that pale,
  And not for you the flowers that fail;
        Let this thought cherish:

  That after while the clouds will part,
  And then with joy the waiting heart
  Shall feel the light come stealing in,
  That drives away the cloud of sin
        And breaks its power.
  And you shall burst your chrysalis,
  And wing away to realms of bliss,
  Untrammelled, pure, divinely free,
  Above all earth’s anxiety
        From that same hour.

Today’s Poem: Daybreak by Sarah Orne Jewett

Daybreak

Sarah Orne Jewett

Where out beyond the eastern hills
    Was faintest light, there, scorning
Shadows which warned us back, we turned
    Our faces toward the morning.

And soon by daylight we could see
    The road we thought so weary;
Where we were frightened in the night
    Was anything but dreary.

On either side grew grass and flowers,
    We saw each other’s faces;
The light shone deep into our hearts,
    The rocks were resting places.

When first upon that morning cold
    We saw the golden glory,
And found the light was meant for us,
    And learned anew its story,

We were so glad. With hearts at rest,
    In peace the sunshine found us.
We sang a psalm, and smiling watched
    The pleasant land around us.

For, though the clouds grow dark o’erhead,
    And storms may bring us sorrow,
It’s not for always, and the sun
    Still shines—will shine to-morrow.

We lose the path, our feet soon tire;
    We seek new ways, lamenting;
And back like truant children come,
    Unsatisfied, repenting.

Though we may fall and fall again,
    We fear to walk no longer;
And even through mistakes and pain
    Can hourly grow the stronger.

Dear Lord of Light! forever lead
Our wandering hearts. Oh! guide us;
Nor let us once in storm or sun
    Forget the Friend beside us.

Poem of the Day ~ Faith

Faith

Edgar Albert Guest

I believe in the world and its bigness and splendor:
That most of the hearts beating round us are tender;
That days are but footsteps and years are but miles
That lead us to beauty and singing and smiles:
That roses that blossom and toilers that plod
Are filled with the glorious spirit of God.

I believe in the purpose of everything living:
That taking is but the forerunner of giving;
That strangers are friends that we some day may meet;
And not all the bitter can equal the sweet;
That creeds are but colors, and no man has said
That God loves the yellow rose more than the red.

I believe in the path that to-day I am treading,
That I shall come safe through the dangers I’m dreading;
That even the scoffer shall turn from his ways
And some day be won back to trust and to praise;
That the leaf on the tree and the thing we call Man
Are sharing alike in His infinite plan.

I believe that all things that are living and breathing
Some richness of beauty to earth are bequeathing;
That all that goes out of this world leaves behind
Some duty accomplished for mortals to find;
That the humblest of creatures our praise is deserving,
For it, with the wisest, the Master is serving.

Feel Good Tip for Today ~ Smile, Step Out & Step Up

Life’s not always easy. No one is immune from the tough times. It’s the only life we have. So we have to suck it up, smile, step out and step up. The other choices are not worth it. Ride the day like the ancient mariner rode the high seas with only a compass and the stars as a guide. You’ll find a safe harbor for a rest before setting out again.

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Dare to Leap and Not Look Back

Sometimes your only available transportation is a leap of faith.Margaret Shepherd

If you’re not willing to take a leap of faith when the opportunity strikes, you’ll never know. You’ll walk back into what you’ve known and where you feel safe and you’ll have missed the destiny that was earmarked for you. Dare to leap and not look back.
