Poem for Today ~ Song for Nobody

Song for Nobody

Thomas Merton

A yellow flower
(Light and spirit)
Sings by itself
For nobody.

A golden spirit
(Light and emptiness)
Sings without a word
By itself.

Let no one touch this gentle sun
In whose dark eye
Someone is awake.

(No light, no gold, no name, no color
And no thought:
O, wide awake!)

A golden heaven
Sings by itself
A song to nobody.

Inspiring Thought for Today ~ Tomorrow Will Be Better than Today

Behind the cloud the sun is still shining.

Health Tip of the Day ~ Do Right by Your Skin

Be Kind to Your Skin

These show up as your skin gets thinner, drier, and less elastic. But some things can make them worse, like smoking and ultraviolet rays from the sun or a tanning bed. To ease these signs of aging, protect your skin from the sun, and if you smoke, quit. Some skin products, like moisturizers or prescription retinoids, might make wrinkles less noticeable. But you’ll need to give them time to work — most need 6 weeks to 3 months to show results. A dermatologist can help you know what would work best for you

Sun protection and quitting smoking will help this problem, too. So will watching how much alcohol you drink — it can dehydrate you. It’s a good idea to keep showers or baths to less than 10 minutes and to use warm water instead of hot. Then put a heavy, oil-based moisturizer all over your body right away.

Photo of the Day ~ Not to Worry, The Sun Will Shine

There are times when we wonder if the sun will shine on us. It’s there, shining above the clouds. It will shine again on you and those you love.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Grab Hold of the Day

The sun is a rising. The sky’s blue. It’s going to be a great day. Step out in the cold morning air and take a deep breath. Yes, it’s going to be a great day. Grab hold of it and don’t let go.

Today’s Poem ~ Lady Love

Lady Love
Paul Eluard
She is standing on my eyelids
And her hair is in my hair
She has the color of my eye
She has the body of my hand
In my shade she is engulfed
As a stone against the sky

She will never close her eyes
And she does not let me sleep
And her dreams in the bright day
Make the suns evaporate
And me laugh cry and laugh
Speak when I have nothing to say

Something to Think About

The days are growing shorter in the northern hemisphere. The sun is setting more than an hour earlier than it did on the first day of summer in south Texas. In my morning sky I can now see the constellation Orion. Its belt is a familiar sight. There is a rhythm to Earth’s journey around the sun. When we discover the inherent rhythm in our lives and flow with it, we develop a sense of inner peace knowing there is a place and time for everything. Find your rhythm and enter the flow.

Wellness Tip ~ Enjoying the Summer

create healthy summer habits

  • Beat the sun and heat with an early morning or evening activity.
  • Wear protective clothing, such as hats, long-sleeve shirts, and long pants or skirts.
  • Use sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15, preferably 30, and reapply frequently.
  • Use sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB.
  • Try to stay in the shade when outdoors during peak sunlight.
  • Go to an air-conditioned gym, do water workouts, or use a fitness video at home.
  • Drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercise.
