🌾 Today’s Poem ~ My Polar Star

My Polar Star

Tagore

I have made You the polar star of my
existence; never again can I lose my way in the
voyage of life.

Wherever I go, You are always there to
shower your benefience all around me. Your face
is ever present before my mind’s eyes.

If I lose sight of You even for a moment, I
almost lose my mind.

Whenever my heart is about to go astray, just
a glance of You makes it feel ashamed of itself.

😎 Today’s Happy Brain ~ Dance Your Brain into Shape

The Centers for Disease Prevention and ControlTrusted Source notes that learning new dance moves can increase your brain’s processing speed and memory. In other words, bust a move on the dance floor and your brain will thank you.

Want to test it out? Give one of these dance activities a try:

  • Take a salsa, tap, hip-hop, or contemporary dance class.
  • Try a Zumba or jazz exercise class.
  • Watch an online video with fun dance moves you’ve always wanted to learn.
  • Grab a partner and learn to ballroom dance.
  • Gather your friends and go line dancing.

Turn on YouTube or something similar, you’ll have all the free dancing tutorials you can handle right in your living room. I’d write more, but I’m going to practice the Texas Two Step.

🤗 A Better Life ~ Is it Time for a Digital Detox?

Get Unplugged for an Hour

Unplugging for even a small amount of time can be beneficial to your well-being. The next time you find yourself with nothing to do, step away from your phone for a few hours. Instead, try going for a walk and connecting with your thoughts. Step away from your phone either for a few hours or even take the entire day off of devices. Instead, try getting outside and connecting with nature, or meeting up with friends IRL. Remember: Even a short break from your phone can help you unwind and focus on what brings you joy.

🍎 Today’s Health Question ~ Is Stress Harmful?

True or False: How we think about stress is more important than the stress itself.

Answer:

True: A whole body of research shows that generally it’s not our stress that harms us. It’s how we think about our stress. If you expect your body’s natural response to a challenge to be harmful, then it will be. If you conceptualize stress as a helpful adaptation to dealing with tough times, it causes less mental and physical harm.

Covid – 19 Life Hack

Teenagers Spreading a Covid -19 Positive Message

There’s a temptation to get down and discouraged when I read the news about Covid – 19. Getting discouraged is not where I want to be. Hope is my food, and positive expectations are my drink. What to do? My gym’s manager’s teenagers stepped up and are making a positive difference. Check out the Covid – 19 Life Hack below.

Here’s Today’s Covid – 19 life hack: My gym manager’s teens placed positive messages on water bottles. The water bottles were placed on a table in my gym. I picked one up on my B487D08A-3F80-4CA3-92A6-9EB1BEAAE7E8way home. Here’s a photo of me with my bottle (Photo taken at home. I had to ditch the sweat stained shirt – LOL). The teens provided water and a great message. Boom, my hope and positive expectations climbed three notches.

Do you have a Covid – 19 life hack? Want to share it? Email it to me at ray.brese@gmail.com. I’ll post it (and attribute it to you, using your preferred attribution).

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Barter

Barter

Sara Teasdale

Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children’s faces looking up
Holding wonder like a cup.

Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit’s still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.

Today’s Smile 😃

Joe: “My girlfriend accused me of being immature.”

Pete: “Why’d she say that?”

Joe: “I told her to get out of my tree house.”

😎 Today’s Happy Brain ~ Want to Play Cards?

Playing Cards is a Great Brain Boosting Activity

When’s the last time you played a game of cards? Researchers who conducted a study in 2015Trusted Source on mentally stimulating activities for adults, say a quick card game can lead to greater brain volume in several regions of the brain. The same study also found that a game of cards could improve memory and thinking skills.

Try learning one of these tried-and-true card games:

  • solitaire
  • bridge
  • gin rummy
  • poker
  • hearts
  • crazy eights
  • Cribbage (I added this one. I downloaded a cribbage app. The last time I played it was with my dad when I was a young kid. I could never beat him.

“It takes guts to get out of the ruts.”

🤗 A Better Life ~ You are Fantastic!

Compliment Yourself

Every morning before you go on with your daily routine, take a couple of minutes to give yourself a compliment. Whether you compliment your outfit, haircut, or how you recently completed a task using your unique skill sets, giving yourself a little emotional boost will make you happy. And, when you’re happy with yourself, that emotion can be contagious to those around you. Inspirational speaker Tony Robbins has a mantra he says aloud to himself most days to put him in a peak performance state.
