Today’s Smile 😃

Joe: “I’m really happy with life right now. Kids are doing great in school, my wife loves me, and my doctor says I’m the picture of perfect health.

Pete: Wow! That’s great! Is there anything wrong with you?”

Joe: My therapist told me I’m a compulsive liar.”

💡 Something to Think About

Where are you going? Do you rise each morning without a destination? It might be time to rethink that option. Decide where you want to go and then plan how you’ll get there. Each day will become part of meaning-filled journey toward your destination.

🍎 Today’s Health Question ~ What Does a Healthy Cereal Look Like?

What Nutritionists Look for in a Healthy Cereal

“I like to recommend shopping for whole grain options,” Amy Gorin, owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition in New York, told HuffPost. “You can take a look at the ingredients list of the cereal to check that the first ingredient is a whole grain. That ingredient might be whole wheat, oats, cornmeal or another whole grain.”

Gorin added that ample fiber (at least 3 grams per serving), some protein (at least 5 grams per serving) and a conservative amount of sugar (no more than 4-6 grams per serving) is also ideal. “Protein and fiber help keep you fuller for longer, and we should try and limit our intake of added sugar,” she said.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ A Lesson for Writers Who Struggle

“Don’t look back until you’ve written an entire draft, just begin each day from the last sentence you wrote the preceeding day. This prevents those cringing feelings, and means that you have a substantial body of work before you get down to the real work which is all in . . . The edit.” ~ Will Self

👊 Today’s Power Thought ~ A Rancher’s Wisdom

An old Texas rancher gave me this piece of advice, “Ray, wish in one hand and poop (not his word, LOL) in the other and see which one you get first.” The gist of his ranch spun wisdom, get your hands dirty, work hard, work consistently and it will pay off.

🤗 A Better Life ~ You’re Special

If you dare take the journey within, you’ll discover a man/woman who is courageous and met the test time and again. You’ll discover a man/woman who brightened the world for others and lifted them up. You’re something else. You’re special. Glad to be with you on this journey.

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ The Summer Day

The Summer Day
Mary Oliver
Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean–
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down–
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ The Writer as Storyteller

“I wouldn’t have thought that the techniques of story-telling, which is what the novel is after all, can vary much because there are two things involved. There’s a story and there’s a listener, whose attention you have to keep. Now the only way in which you can keep a reader’s attention to a story is in his wanting to know what is going to happen next. This puts a fairly close restriction on the method you must use.”

~ William Golding

🤗 A Better Life ~ The Best Kind of People

When I think of people who made a difference in my life I think of people who were kind to me. I think of people who offered me a hand when I was I down. I think of people who had the courage to stand with me when I stood alone against the crowd. I think of people who accepted me as I am, the good and bad. They are the best kind of people.
