🌾 Today’s Poem ~ The House by the Side of the Road

The House by the Side of the Road

Sam Walter Foss’

Let me live in a house by the side of the road,
Where the race of men go by—
The men who are good and the men who are bad,
As good and as bad as I.
I would not sit in the scorner’s seat,
    Or hurl the cynic’s ban;—
Let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

I see from my house by the side of the road,
By the side of the highway of life,
The men who press with the ardor of hope,
The men who are faint with the strife.
But I turn not away from their smiles nor their tears—
Both parts of an infinite plan;—
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

I know there are brook-gladdened meadows ahead
    And mountains of wearisome height;
And the road passes on through the long afternoon
And stretches away to the night.
But still I rejoice when the travelers rejoice,
And weep with the strangers that moan,
Nor live in my house by the side of the road
Like a man who dwells alone.

Let me live in my house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by—
They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong,
    Wise, foolish—so am I.
Then why should I sit in the scorner’s seat
    Or hurl the cynic’s ban?—
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Crossing the Bar

Crossing the Bar

Alfred (Lord) Tennyson

Sunset and evening star,

And one clear call for me!

And may there be no moaning of the bar,

When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,

Too full for sound and foam,

When that which drew from out the boundless deep

   Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,

   And after that the dark!

And may there be no sadness of farewell,

   When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place

The flood may bear me far,

I hope to see my Pilot face to face

When I have crost the bar.

Today’s Smile 😃

Joe: “My ex girlfriend used to love it when she’d come home and find me waiting for her.”

Pete: “What happened?”

Joe: “Now, when she finds me waiting for her, she calls the police.”

💡 Something to Think About

My grandmother traveled alone to the US from Italy at the age of 14. She spoke no English. She carried all she owned in a satchel. In her heart she carried faith, hope, and trust that all would work out. And, it did. God Bless you Nonna.

👊 Today’s Power Thought ~ Keep Moving On

🍎 Today’s Health Question ~ Want a Great Tasting Fruit High in Vitamins C & E?

Mangoes are a Great Healthy Choice

“Mangoes are often considered an “exotic” fruit and so many people don’t include them in their summer diet. If that’s you, you’re missing out. Mangoes, which have a soft, sweet taste, contain high-levels of Vitamins C and E, iron, calcium and antioxidants that help lower cholesterol and blood pressure.”
