🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Eat Slowly, Lose Weight

Eating Slowly will Reduce Calories Consumed

The pace at which you eat influences how much you eat, as well as how likely you are to gain weight. In fact, studies comparing different eating speeds show that fast eaters are much more likely to eat more and have a higher body mass index (BMI) than slow eaters. Your appetite, how much you eat, and how full you get are all controlled by hormones. Hormones signal to your brain whether you’re hungry or full. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to receive these messages. That’s why eating more slowly may give your brain the time it needs to perceive that you’re full. Studies have confirmed this, showing that eating slowly may reduce the number of calories you consume at meals and help you lose weight. Eating slowly is also linked to more thorough chewing, which has also been linked to improved weight control.So, simply eating slower and chewing more often may help you eat less.

👊 Today’s Power Thought ~ Integrity is Important

Integrity is a big deal. It asks us to be honest with others and ourselves. It requires us to take a stand for what is right. It holds us to a standard to treat others with respect and decency. When you’re in the presence of someone with integrity, you know it. You know you can trust and count on this person.

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ In Memoriam, [Ring out, wild bells]

In Memoriam, [Ring out, wild bells]

Alfred Lord Tennyson

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
   The flying cloud, the frosty light:
   The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
   Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
   The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Ring out the grief that saps the mind
   For those that here we see no more;
   Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.

Ring out a slowly dying cause,
   And ancient forms of party strife;
   Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.

Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
   The faithless coldness of the times;
   Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes
But ring the fuller minstrel in.

Ring out false pride in place and blood,
   The civic slander and the spite;
   Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.

Ring out old shapes of foul disease;
   Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
   Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.

Ring in the valiant man and free,
   The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
   Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

If you can’t get out of something you have to do, put your whole being into it and you’ll make it shine.

💡 Something to Think About

Are you playing it safe? Or, are you open to adventure? A plane never goes anywhere if it remains at the gate. Is it time to leap into the unknown and take a chance? You’ll never know unless you jump.
