🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Bright Star

Bright Star

John Keats

Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art-
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night,
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature’s patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors;
No-yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever-or else swoon to death.

💡 Something to Think About

Life challenges us to grow personally and in relationships. When we are out of balance one gets more developed than the other. When we are in balance we grow as an individual and use our individuality to benefit our relationships.

🤗 A Better Life ~ Life is Better When We Get Along

I was speaking to a friend and he related how his family split into two groups arguing over how to handle a parent’s funeral. Now, the family doesn’t get together for holidays. They remain angry with each other. His story created a sense of sadness within me. The foolish things we argue about. We blow them up as if the world spinning on its axis depended on the outcome. It’s better not to hold onto grudges and resentments. Someone has to take the first step to start the healing process. Life is better when we get along.

Today’s Smile 😃

Joe: “My girlfriend told me our relationship is a lot like algebra.”

Pete: “How so, Joe?”

Joe: “She said, she thinks about her X and looks at me and wonders Y.”

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ Want to be a Writer?

“If you’re going to be a writer, the first essential is just to write. Do not wait for an idea. Start writing something and the ideas will come. You have to turn the faucet on before the water starts to flow.”

~ Louis L’Amour

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Are Roasted Nuts as Nutritious as Raw Nuts?

No, nuts do not lose their heart-healthy monounsaturated fat during the roasting process. However, roasting may alter and damage the polyunsaturated fats that nuts also contain and that are more vulnerable to oxidation. Oxidized fats account for rancidity, giving nuts, and other foods, an “off” taste and a bad odor reminiscent of oil paint. Rancid oils are pro-inflammatory and carcinogenic. The more the surface of the nut is exposed to air, the more likely it will be to oxidize. Roasted, chopped, and ground nuts go rancid more quickly than whole raw ones.

🤗 A Better Life ~ It Depends on the Viewpoint

We can choose how we look at things. How we look at things affects our energy, effort, and often the outcome.

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Low Impact Exercises May Be Right for You

Low-impact exercise training includes any kind of exercise that puts minimal stress on the joints.  The goal with low-impact workouts is to keep the body moving well without putting it through unwanted or unnecessary strain, says Randa Alami, NASM-certified personal trainer and corrective exercise specialist. “Low impact exercise is a great way to take care of your body, especially after an injury, because we rarely ever want to stop moving completely,” she says. “The goal is to keep moving without exacerbating pain or tissue damage.” Walking, swimming, bike riding, yoga, stretching and light strength training are great examples of activities you can do without overworking your body. Conversely, you’ll be ditching movements such as jumping, running, burpees, and maxing out your deadlift.

This excerpt is taken from, “Best Low-Impact Exercises For Post-Injury Training.” It’s a great resource if you have joint problems and want to exercise.
