🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Dreams

Dreams

Langston Hughes

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ When do You Tell a Story?

A story is a way to say something that can’t be said any other way, and it takes every word in the story to say what the meaning is. You tell a story because a statement would be inadequate. When anybody asks what a story is about, the only proper thing is to tell them to read the story. The meaning of fiction is not abstract meaning but experienced meaning.” ~ Flannery O’Connor

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ On Children

On Children

Kahlil Gibran

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children.
     And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
     Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

🌞 Today’s Inspiration ~ What Makes You Get Up Each Morning?

“The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.”

~ Fyodor Dostoevsky

🤗 A Better Life ~ The Treasure is Closer than You Realize

The treasure we seek is often much closer to us than we realize. We don’t see the treasure because we’re caught up in chasing ephemeral goals. A few weeks ago my brother told me his best friend died of ALS. My brother visited him in his final hours. His friend didn’t talk about his achievements, he told my brother, that he (my brother) was the brother he never had. What seems important may not be the most important.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ A Definition of a Good Poem

“A good poem is a contribution to reality. The world is never the same once a good poem has been added to it. A good poem helps to change the shape of the universe, helps to extend everyone’s knowledge of himself and the world around him.” ~ Dylan Thomas
