💡 Something to Think About

We’re all different. I was chatting with a neighbor yesterday and he asked me if I watched the evening news. I told him I don’t watch the evening news I read current events online and I don’t read it in the evening. We’re different. Neither of us is right or wrong. We’re just different. When we accept the differences in each other we eliminate many disagreements as to what is right or wrong.

Pete: “What did you do?”

Joe: “I donated a piece of liver I had in the freezer.”

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ What is Intuitive Eating?

One of the newest diets around isn’t a diet at all. It doesn’t name “good” or “bad” foods. Nor does it require measuring food, tracking calories or stepping on a scale. Yet it’s consistently linked to healthier weights, improved mental health and lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, according to one Public Health Nutrition review.

So how does it work? Intuitive eating comes down to paying attention to your body, whether you feel sated, says explains Tracy L. Tylka, professor of psychology at Ohio State University who has extensively studied intuitive eating.

Through her Intuitive Eating Scale, she notes four main characteristics of the approach:

    1. Labeling no foods as forbidden.
    2. Avoiding emotional eating.
    3. Trusting the body’s hunger and satiety cues to guide food choices.
    4. Choosing foods that both make the person feel good in his or her body and taste good.

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ She Walks in Beauty Like the Night

She Walks in Beauty Like the Night

Lord Byron

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

👊 Today’s Power Thought ~ What Will Your Legacy Look Like?

We become the person we’re destined to become through each of our actions. Choose actions that leave a legacy of good works, kindness, and love. You’ll have lived a life worth living.

🤗 A Better Life ~ How Will You Respond?

We all get angry. Anger happens. We all have stimuli generates a flash point. Although we can’t help feeling angry, we can choose how we respond to the stimuli that caused our anger. We can lash out and later regret what we said and/or did. Or, we  can choose not to respond until we can clearly understand what happened. At that point, we can choose how to respond or not respond. Not much good comes from lashing out.

💡 Something to Think About

Early in my academic career a speaker at a conference on publishing provided great advice. The speaker said, “You’re going to think you’ve written a great paper worthy of publication.The critics won’t agree with you and they will reject your paper. Learn to live with rejection, but don’t accept rejection as final. Learn from the rejection, revise your paper and submit it again and again.” It was great advice that applies to many parts of life. Rejection is not final. Try, try, and try again.
