🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Need a Healthy Energy Pick Me Up?

When your energy is low, you might reach for a cup of coffee or a handful of candy to provide a quick boost.Too much caffeine can deliver the opposite of a jolt. And quickly digesting carbohydrates, such as sweet beverages, white bagels, pretzels, and candy will cause your blood sugar to spike and give you a short-lived high that ends in a crash. . . . Protein in particular increases the production of a brain chemical that regulates concentration. Protein improves focus, making you feel alert and on top of your game. When the mid-afternoon energy slump strikes, a well-timed, protein-packed snack can provide an instant pick-me-up and keep you satisfied for hours. . . . Foods like nuts, plain yogurt, and whole grains will keep your snacks low in calories and high in satisfying fuel.

💡 Something to Think About

Most people are going to think what they want to think. They are going to believe what they want to believe. There’s not much one can do to convince them of their view of the truth. If, however, they witness your actions, you may inspire them to be better than they ever imagined. Actions matter much more than words.

🌞 Today’s Inspiration ~ Shine Your Own Light

“To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your path, and don’t worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest. Always do what you are afraid to do.”

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ In Spite of War

In Spite of War

Angela Morgan

In spite of war, in spite of death,
In spite of all man’s sufferings,
Something within me laughs and sings
And I must praise with all my breath.
In spite of war, in spite of hate
Lilacs are blooming at my gate,
Tulips are tripping down the path
In spite of war, in spite of wrath.
“Courage!” the morning-glory saith;
“Rejoice!” the daisy murmureth,
And just to live is so divine
When pansies lift their eyes to mine.

The clouds are romping with the sea,
And flashing waves call back to me
That naught is real but what is fair,
That everywhere and everywhere
A glory liveth through despair.
Though guns may roar and cannon boom,
Roses are born and gardens bloom;
My spirit still may light its flame
At that same torch whence poppies came.
Where morning’s altar whitely burns
Lilies may lift their silver urns
In spite of war, in spite of shame.

And in my ear a whispering breath,
“Wake from the nightmare! Look and see
That life is naught but ecstasy
In spite of war, in spite of death!”

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Invictus

Invictus
William Ernest Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
      For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

👊 Today’s Power Thought ~ Spoken Words & Actions

There’s a big difference between words spoken and actions taken. If you want to discover the truth about another, pay more attention to their actions and less to their words. It is also a case for self-reflections: Do my actions mirror my words?
