Joe: “I just finished reading a novel about a guy who had a small garden.”
Pete: “How was it.”
Joe: “It didn’t have much of a plot.”

And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.
“Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.” ~ Matsuo Basho
When we offer a neighbor a helping hand, the neighbor’s life is better and ours is as well. Everyone benefits.
When listening, check to make sure what is said is understood in the way the speaker intended it to be understood. One can always ask questions to get to a deeper understanding. Lots of problems are resolved through deeper understanding.
It’s official: surrounding yourself with green views has a powerful effect on health and wellbeing, reducing psychological stress and boosting energy, self-esteem, and mood. As well as regularly getting out in nature, position the chairs in your house so you naturally gaze out of the windows, fill your home with indoor plants, and set your computer screensaver to your favorite landscape.
Do not look so sad, sweet one,—
Sad and fadingly;
Shed one drop then,—it is gone—
O ’twas born to die!
Still so pale? then, dearest, weep;
Weep, I’ll count the tears,
And each one shall be a bliss
For thee in after years.
Brighter has it left thine eyes
Than a sunny rill;
And thy whispering melodies
Are tenderer still.
Yet—as all things mourn awhile
At fleeting blisses,
E’en let us too! but be our dirge
A dirge of kisses.
Joe: “I was going to ask the doctor a question about my wife’s pregnancy. He said, “I know what you’re going to ask.”
Pete: “What did he say?”
Joe: “He said, “You want to know how long you can have sex with your wife.’ I said, ‘No, I want to know how long she can keep mowing the grass.”
When I think of surprise I think of excitement and curiosity. My mind becomes open to possibilities and new insights. Once, while riding through the beautiful Kansas Flint Hills I recall having a creative insight that led to several great opportunities. I didn’t see it coming, I was surprised. Life is full of surprises. I think you have to be open to receiving surprises before they appear. Surprises can’t be programmed or planned. They happen. Are you open to the great surprises awaiting you?
Take a look over your shoulder. What kind of trail are you leaving? Did you mark your trail with how much you cared about others, our environment, and how you have given it your all?
