Today’s Health Tip ~ Get Up and Move

Avoid Sitting for Long Spells.

If you have a desk job that involves sitting all day or you like to binge-watch TV, Dr.Anthony Pick, MD, of Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital in Illinois urges you to get up and move regularly. Research suggests that long periods of sitting are harmful for the heart. “There’s that saying that ‘sitting is the new smoking,’” Pick says. Current exercise guidelines recommend 150 minutes of moderately intense exercise a week, or at least 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week. Choose physical activities that you enjoy enough to do regularly.

Something to Think About

I often take my morning cup of coffee for granted. Yet, if I discover I’m  out of coffee my first thoughts are of making a run to my local coffee shop. My cup of coffee and the start of the day are best friends. I enjoy the coffee’s fragrance as the coffee machine is at work. I like looking at the deep rich dark color in my clear coffee cup. I savor the smoky, cocoa, woody taste  of my coffee. It’s not just a breakfast drink. It awakens my taste buds, mind, and draws a smile on my face. Grateful for everyone who played any part in bringing coffee into my home. Here’s to you, Cheers!!

Today’s Power Thought ~ Today Gives Us a Chance

Today gives a chance to prepare for tomorrow. Tomorrow has a big rainbow waiting for us. We may have to put in the hard work and a number of todays to get to the tomorrow we want, but it’s there. Tomorrow wants us to court it and show it how much we want it. Don’t give up. Don’t quit.

Today’s Poem ~ Thanks

Thanks

Henrik Ibsen
HER griefs were the hours
When my struggle was sore,–
Her joys were the powers
That the climber upbore.

Her home is the boundless
Free ocean that seems
To rock, calm and soundless,
My galleon of dreams.

Half hers are the glancing
Creations that throng
With pageant and dancing
The ways of my song.

My fires when they dwindle
Are lit from her brand;
Men see them rekindle
Nor guess by whose hand.

Of thanks to requite her
No least thought is hers,–
And therefore I write her,
Once, thanks in a verse.

A Better Life ~ The Rainbow Will Appear

There are somethings you don’t get over, you just get through. These are the tough things. We’ve no choice but to keep going, keep hoping, and keep looking for the rainbow up ahead. Keep on walking, the rainbow will appear at the right time.

Today’s Poem ~ The Tree of Love

The Tree of Love

St. Francis of Assisi

The tree of love its roots hath spread
Deep in my heart, and rears its head;
Rich are its fruits: they joy dispense;
Transport the heart, and ravish sense.
In love’s sweet swoon to thee I cleave,
Bless’d source of love . . .

Something to Think About

I drove by an elementary school today. The sign in the front of the school listed the names of two outstanding students. I don’t know how the students feel, but the parents must feel proud The sign made me recall my elementary school days. I wasn’t the top student by far. Perhaps I would have been the top student if they measured day dreaming. i was really good at that. I was also very good at socializing, which got me frequently sent to an isolated corner table. Perhaps the other six hundred kids in this elementary school who didn’t make the sign are day dreamers like me and enjoy recess over being class.

Something to Think About

I wish things would always go my way, but they don’t. My teams don’t win every game. It doesn’t rain only at night (ha, I wished it would rain). And, not everyone agrees with me. It’s all part of life’s dance. Life becomes much easier when my attitude about life changes. When I accept that life doesn’t have to always go my way, life instantly becomes much better. Heck, my team entertained me. Grateful I could watch the team play. No, it didn’t rain, but the blue sky was beautiful. I learned why a friend has a different opinion than mine on a hot button issue. Yes, life is better when I learn to dance with it.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Keep Climbing

Know where you’re going, but keep your eyes on the next step. We climb our most challenging mountains one step at a time. If we keep climbing we’ll reach the summit in due time. Keep Climbing.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Walking While Talking on Your Cell May Be Dangerous

When Chatting with Friends on Your Cell, Watch Where You are Walking

A 2019 study in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery shows a steep rise in head and neck injuries linked to cellphone use. From 1998 to 2017, more than 2,500 people went to emergency rooms with cellphone-related injuries like cuts and scrapes to their head or neck, which were mainly due to falls from texting while walking and other distractions. The authors of the study say the brunt of cellphone injuries happen to millennials and Gen Zers—groups that may need some additional schooling about the dangers of multitasking while on the phone.
