“To sit back and let fate play its hand out and never influence it is not the way man was meant to operate.”

Something to Think About
One cannot rip the past out of his/her life. it’s stuff that happened to us and it’s stored at a cellular level in our memory. The best we can do is to make peace with the past. It’s not always easy to make peace with the past because lots of the characters in our personal drama are no longer in our lives (they’re either dead or no longer live near us). If we can find ways to forgive those who hurt us, we loosen the past’s grip on us. That’s easier said than done. Yet, it has to be done if one is to find peace and eventually happiness.

What If . . .
What if I regained the curiosity of a child? If were to regain the curiosity of a young child, my creativity would know no bounds. I’d take chances and become an explorer of all that piques my interest. Fear would take second place to the possibilities of finding something new. We can’t turn the clock back, however, we can fan the embers of our curiosity and discover more fully the amazing world of which we a part.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Is Chicken Soup Really Good for the Common Cold?
Chicken Soup is Helps Fight the Common Cold
Modern research has actually shown that chicken soup, more than other hot liquid, increases mucus flow and helps the body rid itself of the cold virus. Chicken is rich in an amino acid called cysteine which helps loosen secretions. This effect is increased by adding spices such as pepper and garlic. Often when people become ill with the cold or flu they lose body fluids and minerals called electrolytes. Potassium loss is of particular concern in dehydration. Parsnips are a very good source of potassium and should always go into chicken soup. So should carrots and onions because of their antioxidant content.
Today’s Smile
Joe: “My co-worker’s doctor called him and told him he had good news and bad news.”
Pete: “What did the doctor say?”
Joe: “The doctor said, ‘You have 24 hours to live.’ My friend hollered, ‘If that’s the good news, what’s the bad?’ The doctor said, “I forgot to tell you this yesterday.”
Today’s Poem ~ Come With Me I Said, And No One Knew
Come With Me, I Said, and No One Knew
Pablo Neruda
Come with me, I said, and no one knew
where, or how my pain throbbed,
no carnations or barcaroles for me,
only a wound that love had opened.
I said it again: Come with me, as if I were dying,
and no one saw the moon that bled in my mouth
or the blood that rose into the silence.
O Love, now we can forget the star that has such thorns!
That is why when I heard your voice repeat
Come with me, it was as if you had let loose
the grief, the love, the fury of a cork-trapped wine
the geysers flooding from deep in its vault:
in my mouth I felt the taste of fire again,
of blood and carnations, of rock and scald.
What If . . .
What if I didn’t let the news stick in my brain today? There’s infinitely more good news than there is bad news. Good news doesn’t sell. Bad news grabs our attention. It pokes at our instincts to survive. Reports of crime far out weigh the reports of kind acts. Yet, I’d speculate kind acts far exceed criminal acts. If I don’t allow myself to get hooked into the bad news, I’ve an opportunity to smile more, laugh, and spontaneously break out into song for no reason other than to sing.
