Today’s Inspiration ~ A New Way of Thinking

I do not fix problems. I fix my thinking. Then problems fix themselves.

~ Louise Hay

A Better Life ~ How Are You Spending Your Energy?

Each morning we have restored supplies of energy to accomplish the work we have to do during the day. Our energy depletes itself as the day wears on. Don’t waste a single minute of energy on things that don’t elevate, inspire, and guide us to worthwhile goals. Is it time to reassess how you are spending your energy?

Something to Think About

It’s a poor bet to delay going after our dream. No one knows how long their life will be. When we decide to wait, we’re betting that whenever we set out to chase the dream, everything will be set and the timing will be perfect. One thing we can count on, there will never be a perfect time to chase the dream. There will always be mountains in our way. The sooner we set out to climb our mountains, the sooner we’ll realize our mountains are not so tall, and we’re well on our way to our dream. Don’t deny yourself the chance to go for your dream by delaying your decision. Now is the time. Where you are at is the place. It’s the perfect time to start.

Today’s Smile

Joe: “My brother has two German Shepherds, Rolex and Cartier.”

Pete: “That’s nice.”

Joe: “They’re watch dogs.”

What If . . .

What if I quit settling for less than what I deserve? I was fortunate early on in my career a mentor took me aside and gave me sage advice. He said it a bit differently, but his meaning was clear. He said never settle for less than what you’re worth. I followed his advice. I was criticized by friends for being foolish and turning down job offers. I turned them down because I followed my mentor’s advice. Patience always paid off. Never settle for less than what you’re worth. You’ll feel good about yourself. And, others will respect you.

Today’s Poem ~ Any Woman

Any Woman
Katharine Tynan
I am the pillars of the house;
The keystone of the arch am I.
Take me away, and roof and wall
Would fall to ruin me utterly.

I am the fire upon the hearth,
I am the light of the good sun,
I am the heat that warms the earth,
Which else were colder than a stone.

At me the children warm their hands;
I am their light of love alive.
Without me cold the hearthstone stands,
Nor could the precious children thrive.

I am the twist that holds together
The children in its sacred ring,
Their knot of love, from whose close tether
No lost child goes a-wandering.

I am the house from floor to roof,
I deck the walls, the board I spread;
I spin the curtains, warp and woof,
And shake the down to be their bed.

I am their wall against all danger,
Their door against the wind and snow,
Thou Whom a woman laid in a manger,
Take me not till the children grow!

Today’s Power Thought ~ There are Consequences

“How you make your bed will determine how well you’ll sleep (Polish proverb).” There are consequences to all our actions. When we think about it this way, we become aware of the affect of our actions on others. The recent actions by a professional basketball player (US) provides a clear example. He made a public anti-semitic statement . It wasn’t until he was suspended for five days that he finally issued an apology. If he thought about the consequences of his actions, hopefully, he would have made a better choice. Actions have consequences, good or bad. Here’s hoping all your actions result in positive consequences.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Ginger is a Powerful Healthy Herb and Combats Nausea

Studies have consistently shown that 1 gram or more of ginger can successfully treat nausea including nausea caused by morning sickness, chemotherapy and sea sickness. Ginger also appears to have strong anti-inflammatory properties, and can help with pain management. One study in subjects at risk for colon cancer found that 2 grams of ginger extract per day decreased markers for colon inflammation in the same way as aspirin. Other research found that a mixture of ginger, cinnamon, mastic, and sesame oil decreased pain and stiffness experienced by those with osteoarthritis. It had a similar effectiveness as treatment with aspirin or ibuprofen.

Today’s Poem ~ Beauty

Beauty
Edward Thomas
WHAT does it mean? Tired, angry, and ill at ease,
No man, woman, or child alive could please
Me now. And yet I almost dare to laugh
Because I sit and frame an epitaph–
“Here lies all that no one loved of him
And that loved no one.” Then in a trice that whim
Has wearied. But, though I am like a river
At fall of evening when it seems that never
Has the sun lighted it or warmed it, while
Cross breezes cut the surface to a file,
This heart, some fraction of me, happily
Floats through a window even now to a tree
Down in the misting, dim-lit, quiet vale;
Not like a pewit that returns to wail
For something it has lost, but like a dove
That slants unanswering to its home and love.
There I find my rest, and through the dusk air
Flies what yet lives in me. Beauty is there
