Something to Think About

When I walk through my neighborhood I notice that some folks have no room in the garages to park their car. Their garages are packed with stuff. There is a deep sense of clutter. I’m sure they have a mental organization set that allows them to find any small item amidst the chaos. It’s the same way with our closets. We collect clothes that we never wear. The clothes hang in our closet unused, collecting dust. It’s the same way with our minds. We collect useless information and let it clutter our minds. Is it time to toss away the stuff that clutters the garage, attic, or spare room? You’ll feel better as you clear the stuff that clogs up your garage, attic, spare room, and mind.

What If . . .

What if I weren’t so hard on myself? I think I’d take twenty pounds off my shoulders if I let go self critical dialogue. How about you? We can be our own worse critics. All we have to do is listen to our self-directed language. It doesn’t have to be this way. Instead of being our personal critic, we can change and become our self appointed cheerleader. “Why did I do that” changes to “That was a nice try, you’ll do better next time.” You get the idea. I feel better already.

A Better Life ~ Change – It’s All Up to Me

I am the only one I can change. I waste my time and cause necessary friction with others when I try to change them. I can change my attitude. i can change my behavior. I can change my habits. It’s all up to me. If I don’t change, It’s on me. Not everyone will like my changes. They’re used to the old me. If the old me isn’t working, I want to change into a new me. If other people are unhappy with the new me, that’s not my issue. I have to move on.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Is Swimming In Chlorine Treated Pools Safe?

You May Want to Think Twice About Jumping in a Chlorine Treated Pool

The real danger [in swimming in chlorine treated swimming pools is not the pool chemicals themselves, but how they mix with other chemicals that people bring to the water. Urine, along with body care products like shampoos, lotions and conditioners, interacts with chlorine to form volatile organic compounds that can be unhealthy to breathe.

“After the chlorine reacts, you create a whole spectrum of potentially dangerous molecules,” said Andrew Chadeayne, a former college swimmer and a patent lawyer with a doctorate in chemistry. “The ones we know about are irritating to eyes and the respiratory system.” . . . There’s no conclusive evidence that exposure to these compounds might lead to serious problems, such as cancer, but “the other thing to really worry about is a lot of them have never been studied at all.”

Today’s Power Thought ~ The Value of a Good Listener

An Italian proverb says, “Few words are needed for a good listener.” When we listen to another we open our mind and heart to that person. By listening with our mind and heart we offer the speaker our deep respect. Through our listening the speaker understands that we value what he/she has to say.

Today’s Smile

Joe: “I told my wife I feel like traveling.”

Pete: “What did she say?”

Joe: “She checked our savings account and said, “Where? To work?”

Today’s Poem ~ Duet

Duet
Lord Alfred Tennyson
1. Is it the wind of the dawn that I hear
in the pine overhead?
2. No; but the voice of the deep as it hollows
the cliffs of the land.
1. Is there a voice coming up with the
voice of the deep from the strand,
Once coming up with a Song in the
flush of the glimmering red?
2. Love that is born of the deep coming
up with the sun from the sea.
1. Love that can shape or can shatter a
life till the life shall have fled?
2. Nay, let us welcome him, Love that
can lift up a life from the dead.
1. Keep him away from the lone little isle.
Let us be, let us be.
2. Nay, let him make it his own, let him
reign in it – he, it is he,
Love that is born of the deep coming
up with the sun from the sea.

A Better Life ~ Is it a House or a Home?

Is your house/apartment a home? Is it an inviting place? Does it provide you with a sense of peace and a place where you can renew your strength? Is it filled with love? I’ve walked into houses/apartments and the environment was filled with nice things, yet, I’ve felt as much at home as in museum. I’ve walked into other houses/apartments and knew I was in a home. I felt I was apart of and not a part from the environment and all who lived there. When I left, I left feeling energized and renewed.

Today’s Smile

Joe: “I was went down by the river and asked a guy how I’d get to the other side.”

Pete: “What did he say?”

Joe: “He said I was on the other side.”

Today’s Power Thought ~ Creating an Environment for Dialogue

Most people shut down when we tell them what to do. When we ask, would you like some help? We inform them that our door is open and they’re  invited in. Once they walk through the door, we can say, ‘have you thought about this? The opportunity suddenly appears for a dialogue around the central issue.
