Think About It

One doesn’t have to be angry to be strong. One doesn’t haven’t to fear being kind and gentle is a sign of weakness. We’re strong when we face our troubles head on in spite of fears. We’re strong when we stand up and speak the truth as we know it even when we stand alone. We’re strong when we weep with another over a loss. We’re strong when we wrap our arms around our brothers and sisters who are suffering.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Tips for Thyroid Health

Your thyroid needs iodine to work properly and produce enough thyroid hormone for your body’s needs, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). If you don’t get enough iodine, you risk hypothyroidism or a goiter (a thyroid gland that becomes enlarged to compensate for the thyroid hormone shortage, per Medline Plus). Most Americans have no problem getting enough iodine, since table salt is iodized—but if you’re on a low-sodium diet  or follow a vegan diet, then you may need to up your iodine intake from other sources.

Good food sources for a healthy thyroid

  1. Greek yogurt
  2. Brazil nuts
  3. Chicken and beef
  4. Fish and shellfish
  5. Eggs
  6. Berries
  7. Cruciferous veggies
  8. Soy

Today’s Poem ~ Lakota Instructions for Living

Lakota Instructions for Living

Passed down from White Buffalo Calf Woman

Friend do it this way – that is,
whatever you do in life,
do the very best you can
with both your heart and mind.

And if you do it that way,
the Power Of The Universe
will come to your assistance,
if your heart and mind are in Unity.

When one sits in the Hoop Of The People,
one must be responsible because
All of Creation is related.
And the hurt of one is the hurt of all.
And the honor of one is the honor of all.
And whatever we do affects everything in the universe.

If you do it that way – that is,
if you truly join your heart and mind
as One – whatever you ask for,
that’s the Way It’s Going To Be.

Today’s Inspiration ~ A Way of Living

“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.”

~ William Shakespeare

Today’s Joke

Joe: “My supervisor asked me to put a joke on the first slide of the presentation.”

Pete: “How did it work out?”

Joe: “Apparently a picture of my pay check wasn’t funny.”

Think About It

The days continue to grow shorter in the northern hemisphere. Nights are colder. Winter is only a few weeks away. It is a season where the north winds bite our face and turn our ears red. It is a season where snow will cover the ground and life enters a dormant stage. It is a season for reflecting on where we’re heading. If we’re not happy with our direction, we can think about where we want to go. It’s not by accident that spring follows winter and is filled with new life and hope. After this winter, a new spring awaits you. It’s still a way off, but it will come. Use winter to prepare for the new life that will arise in you.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Is It Worth Doing?

“If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing well. If it is worth having, it is worth waiting for. If it is worth attaining, it is worth fighting for. If it is worth experiencing, it is worth putting aside time for.”

~ Oscar Wilde

Today’s Power Thought ~ How Are You Setting Your GPS

I’m happy I can use Apple maps or Google maps when I’m driving to an unfamiliar place. I plug in the address and my iPhone takes car of the rest. I get turn by turn directions to my destination. Life’s not quite as easy. We have to figure out our directions as we’re traveling on life’s road. There are twists and turns, washout roads and bridges and detours. At each juncture we have to make a decision to go ahead or turn. There is no surety in our decisions. What to do? For me, I pray, then confidently act believing everything will turn out.

What if I spent my waking hours awake?

What if I spent my waking hours awake? That sounds confusing. After all, when I am awake, I am awake. One can figuratively sleep walk through a day unaware of people and events around him/her. When we are awake we are in tune with the people and events surrounding us. Being awake is dangerous because it brings us into greater awareness of the plight of those who surround us. Do we dare walk away once we know we can help? Do we dare ignore a situation where we can bring good. Being awake is for those with a courageous heart.
